It's a semiconductor protection fuse, not a branch circuit fuse. The 170M5396 is a Class aR, utilization category aR (accompanied semiconductor protection), which means it protects diodes, SCRs and IGBTs against short circuit only. It has to work alongside an overload device, typically the drive's own electronic overload or a separate breaker. Put it in a lighting or receptacle branch circuit and you have no overload protection at all.

A gR or gS fuse in the same physical body is a different animal, since those add overload protection and the aR does not. If the original was gR, substituting this one leaves your overload gap uncovered.

Check the 80 mm height against your panel door clearance and the 124 mm width against busbar centers before you commit, since square body fuses of this size often need dedicated spacing. The weight matters too if the fuse is hanging off busbar alone with no additional support.

110 W of watt loss at rated current. Multiply that by the number of fuses in the cabinet when you size ventilation or cooling. Three of these in a three phase drive input is 330 W of added heat load, which is enough to matter in a sealed enclosure. Watt loss also drops off substantially below full rated load, so a lightly loaded drive will run cooler than the nameplate figure suggests.

It's IEC rated and CE marked, which is what a panel builder shipping into Europe needs on the documentation package. Keep the part number 170M5396 on the bill of materials since the compliance is tied to the specific catalog number, not the series.
