1) Does the PCA33000F come with a trip unit, or is it just the breaker frame?
PCA33000F is a frame only. The 3000A three-pole frame ships without the trip unit installed, so you order the electronic LS trip unit and any rating plug separately. If you need a complete, ready-to-install breaker, this is the wrong catalogue number to buy on its own.
2) Will a 3000A PCA frame hold up on a 480V service with high available fault current?
The PCA33000F is rated 100 kAIC at 480 Vac, so it can be applied where the calculated available fault current at the breaker location is 100 kA or less at 480 volts. Above that you need series-rated protection upstream or a higher interrupting frame. The frame itself is rated to 600 Vac.
3) What does an Electronic LS trip give me versus an LSI or LSIG breaker?
LS means the electronic trip provides long-time and short-time functions only. There is no instantaneous element and no ground fault element, which is what engineers specify on main and tie breakers where you want the downstream device to clear the fault first. If your coordination study or the drawing calls for instantaneous (I) or ground fault (G) protection, specify a different trip unit for the frame.
4) Is a 3000A three-pole PCA frame suitable for a 600V system?
Voltage rating on the PCA33000F is 600 Vac, so it can be applied on 480V and 600V three-phase systems. The 100 kA interrupting rating is stated at 480 Vac; on a 600V application confirm the interrupting rating required at that voltage against your fault study.
