Emtek 4400 Saratoga Dummy Entrance Handleset - Brass Tubular

It is a dummy set, so there's no latch and no bolt. The Saratoga 4400 is surface mounted trim only, pulled or pushed, with no working mechanism behind it. Use it on the inactive leaf of a double door, on a closet or pantry door held shut by a ball catch or roller catch, or as a decorative match to a working handleset on an adjacent opening. If you need the door to latch, you need an entrance or passage function set instead.

No boring. The Saratoga 4400 is surface mount and needs no door prep, which is why it's the usual choice for an existing slab you don't want to cut, or an inactive door leaf that was never bored. You do need a door in the 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch thickness range, and the mounting holes land on 5-1/2 inch center-to-center.

Handing is required on the Saratoga 4400 because the inside trim can be a lever, and a lever has to point toward the latch edge to look and feel right. Handing is a required selection on the order, right hand or left hand. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it's right hand.

It ships as a complete set, but the interior trim is your choice and you have to specify it. Any Emtek brass knob or lever works for the inside, and the selection is required when ordering. That covers everything from the Ace Knob and Spoke Knob through the Athena, Luzern and Poseidon levers, the crystal knobs like Bristol and Windsor, and the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar families in faceted, hammered, knurled, Tribeca and white marble treatments. If you pick a lever, you also have to state handing.

The Saratoga 4400 is non-keyed dummy trim and will not secure an opening. For a keyed exterior door, the Schlage Residential F60 Addison Single Cylinder Keyed Entry Handleset with Accent Lever is a Grade 2 entrance function that covers the same 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch door thickness. If the leaf needs to open and close, the dummy Saratoga is the wrong function.

The Emtek 4400 Saratoga is sold as a complete set, with the inside knob or lever selected from the Emtek brass range and handing given when a lever is used. Several peers are also sold with their interior trim named: the Baldwin Wesley Handleset comes paired with either the Alcott knob or the Carnaby knob in entrance function, and the Weslock 6695 Belmont dummy comes with the Impresa knob. Yes. Split finish is an optional field on the order, so you can run one finish on the exterior escutcheon and a different one on the interior knob or lever. That's how you match a dark exterior to a house's other entry hardware while keeping the inside consistent with the rest of the interior doors.

Check the 5-1/2 inch center-to-center dimension against what's on your door. That's the spacing between the Saratoga's mounting points, and it's what decides whether the new escutcheon lands on the existing through-holes or leaves them showing. Since the 4400 needs no door prep of its own, the only real fit question on a swap is whether the old holes fall under the new plate.

The Emtek 4400 Saratoga is a tubular dummy handleset that surface mounts with no door prep. They prep the door differently and serve different functions, so one does not drop into the other's opening.
