Door thickness range on the 4819 Lausanne is 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, so it covers the common older 1-3/8 interior slab, the standard 1-3/4 commercial and exterior door, and heavier 2 inch doors. Prep is the standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore with 5-1/2 inch center-to-center between the grip cylinder and the lower bore. If you are ordering for something at the top of that range, there is a door thickness field on the order so you can state the actual slab.
2) Does the Emtek 4819 handleset drop into an existing door prep, or does the door need to be re-bored?
If the door already has a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore and 5-1/2 inch center-to-center spacing between deadbolt and knob bores, the 4819 Lausanne goes into that prep as-is. That is the same spacing most residential entry handlesets use. Backset is where people get caught: the latch shipped as standard is 2-3/8 inch, and if the existing bore is set back 2-3/4 inch you have to select the 2-3/4 backset when ordering. Measure from the door edge to the center of the bore before you order.
3) Do I have to specify handing on the Emtek 4819 Lausanne, and how do I tell left from right?
Handing is required and you pick left hand or right hand on the order. It matters whenever a lever is used on the inside trim or an interconnect device is specified, because the lever has to point the correct way and the interconnect linkage is side-specific. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right and it swings away from you, that is right hand. Get it wrong on a lever and the interior trim will be upside down.

5) What comes in the box with the Emtek 4819, and what do I still have to order separately?
The 4819 Lausanne is sold as a complete set, with the latch and strike plate included. What is not decided for you is the inside trim: you have to select a knob or lever style, and it can be any Emtek brass knob or lever, from the Stuttgart or Helios lever to the Ace knob, an L-Square or T-Bar with a faceted, hammered, knurled or white marble insert, or a traditional Egg or Providence knob. Backset, handing and keying are also selections. An Emtek 443 Interconnect Device can be added if you want the lever to retract the deadbolt.
6) Single cylinder or double cylinder on an Emtek Lausanne entry handleset, and is there a dummy version?
The Lausanne comes three ways. The 4819 is the single cylinder entry: key outside, thumbturn inside, which is what most entry doors take. The 4829 is the double cylinder, keyed on both sides, for a door with glass beside or in it where a thumbturn could be reached through a broken pane. The 4809 is the dummy, no working latch, for the inactive leaf of a pair or a fixed door where you only want the look and pull. One caution on the double cylinder: the interconnect device is not available with it.
7) What should I use instead of an Emtek Lausanne handleset on a 2-1/4 inch thick door?
The Lausanne 4819 is built for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch thick, so a 2-1/4 inch door is outside its range.
