1) Will the Emtek 7991 Rope sideplate lockset fit my door prep, or do I need a new bore?
The 7991 Rope uses one standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore, so it drops into a door already prepped for a standard bored lockset. Backset is adjustable at 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches, and it covers doors 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick. The one thing that is not standard is the sideplate: it spans 5-1/2 inches center-to-center between the knob or lever and the key cylinder, so the face of the door needs room for that plate above and below the bore.
2) Is the Emtek 7991 keyed on both sides, and should I put a double cylinder on an exterior door?
Double cylinder is the function: the 7991 takes a key from outside and from inside, with no thumbturn on the interior. That is what people specify for a door with glass beside it or in it, where someone could reach through and turn a thumbturn. The tradeoff is that nobody gets out without a key in hand, so it is a poor choice on a primary egress door in an occupied dwelling. If you want key outside and turn inside, order a single cylinder version instead.
3) Do I have to specify handing when I order an Emtek Rope sideplate lockset?
Handing is required on every order, right hand or left hand. It matters on levers in particular, since a lever has to point toward the latch edge.
