Emtek 8802 Door Ball Catch

The 8802 ships as a complete set: the ball catch body, the strike plate, and the mounting screws are all in the box. Nothing else to source to hang the door, though you'll still need a knob, lever, or pull if the door doesn't have one, since a ball catch only holds the door shut.

Emtek classes the 8802 as a residential catch, so it suits homes, apartments, and light-duty multi-family interior doors, closet and pantry doors, and the inactive leaf of a French door pair. For a high-traffic commercial corridor or an institutional facility standardizing on one catch, spec a commercial-duty part instead.

The Orca Hardware 70DR Series Drive In Ball Catch is supplied with a radius strike, so it suits a jamb prepped for a radiused strike plate. The Emtek 8802 Door Ball Catch comes as a complete set with its own screws and strikeplate, and mounts to the surface rather than driving in. If the existing jamb mortise is radiused, the 70DR strike matches that cut; if the jamb is being prepped new or the 8802 strikeplate can be mortised to suit, the 8802 covers the opening.

No handing on a ball catch. The 8802 mounts in the door edge and the strike goes in the frame directly opposite, so the same part works on a left hand or right hand swing and on either leaf of a pair. Only one thing to get right on the order: the finish.
