1) Will the Emtek Modern Disc privacy knob fit my existing door prep?
It drops into a standard residential bored prep with a 2-1/8 inch cross bore. Backset is adjustable and you pick 2-3/8 inch or 2-3/4 inch when ordering, so it lines up with either of the two common bore centerlines. The latch faceplate is available with round or square corners, which lets you match the mortise already cut into the door edge instead of re-chiseling it. One exception: if you choose the STRETTO rosette, that version needs a 1-1/4 inch diameter bore and a 2-hole prep for the thumbturn, so it is not a straight drop-in on a standard single-bore door.
2) What does the privacy function on this Emtek crystal knob actually do?
Privacy (bed/bath) means it locks from the inside with a thumbturn and has no key. There is no cylinder and no keyway to worry about, so it is for bedroom and bathroom doors, not an exterior or office door. If you need a keyed opening, this is the wrong function.
3) Is the latch and strike plate included with the Emtek Modern Disc knobset, or do I order those separately?
Sold as a complete set: both knobs, the latch, and the strike plate come in the box. Nothing else is required to hang it on a pre-bored door. Choose the latch type at order (standard latch, 28 Degree Rotation latch, or the CF mechanism, which ships with the 28 degree latch).
4) The Emtek Modern Disc privacy set does not take a key - what do I order for an exterior or office door instead?
The Emtek Modern Disc privacy knobset is non-keyed with a bed/bath function, so it is not for an exterior or lockable office door. For keyed knobs, the Cal-Royal BER00 is a Grade 3 entrance/office knob lock with a Kwikset keyway for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, the Dexter C2000 entry/office cylindrical ball knob is Grade 2 and keyed, and the Corbin Russwin CK4851 is a Grade 1 entrance/office cylindrical lock with a conventional cylinder for doors 1-3/8 to 2 inches thick.
5) What other privacy knob is a decorative alternative to the Emtek Modern Disc crystal privacy knobset for a bedroom or bath door?

Where a fire rating is required on the opening, the Falcon W Series W101 Grade 2 cylindrical knob lock is fire rated with a 2-3/4 inch backset in a passage/closet latch function, and the Falcon X101 Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical passage knobset is fire rated for doors 1-3/8 to 2-1/4 inches thick.
8) What is the CF mechanism option on Emtek knobsets and should I pick it?
CF means the rosettes mount with no exposed screws, so you get a clean face on the trim. Choose it if the look matters on visible interior doors. It comes with the 28 Degree Latch included. If you do not care about screw heads showing, the standard latch or the 28 Degree Rotation latch on its own are the other two choices.
9) Can I mix a different rosette or finish with the Modern Disc crystal knob?
Yes. The knob can be ordered with any Sandcast Bronze rosette, and five rosette styles are offered: #1, #2, #3, #4, and #6.
