2) Does a passage lever lock? What is it actually for?
It does not lock. Passage function means the lever always retracts the latch from both sides, no key and no thumbturn, so it is the right choice for hall, closet, pantry and laundry doors. The Padua is listed non-keyed. For a bedroom or bath you want a privacy set with a thumbturn instead.
