1) Will the Emtek Helios privacy leverset fit a standard 2-1/8 inch bored door?
Yes. The Helios privacy leverset drops into a standard 2-1/8 inch cross bore and works on doors from 1-3/8 inch up to 2-1/4 inch thick. The latch ships for a 2-3/8 inch backset, and you specify 2-3/4 inch on the order if that is what your doors are prepped for. One exception on the prep: the STRETTO rosette needs a 1-1/4 inch diameter bore and a 2-hole door preparation for the thumbturn.
2) Do I have to order the Emtek Helios lever handed?
Handing matters here. The Helios lever is ordered Left Hand (LH) or Right Hand (RH), so stand outside the door, note which side the hinges are on, and pick accordingly. If you are doing a run of doors in a building, count the LH and RH openings before you order rather than assuming one lever covers both.
3) What comes in the box with the Emtek Helios privacy set, and do I need anything else?
It is a complete set: both levers, the rosettes you pick, the latch, and the strike plate. Nothing else is required for a door already bored 2-1/8 inch with a standard latch prep. The latch faceplate can be round corner or square corner, so match it to what is already routed into your door edge. If you select the CF mechanism, a 28 degree rotation latch is included.
4) Can I use the Emtek Helios lever on a commercial corridor or classroom door?
No, and this is the one to get right. The Helios brass leverset is a residential, non-keyed privacy lock, tubular type, with a push-button or thumbturn style privacy function for bedrooms and baths. It carries no commercial grade and no keying. For a commercial opening in a passage function, look at the Falcon K101 Grade 1 heavy duty passage lock, which is fire rated and covers 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors, or the Corbin Russwin CL3110 Grade 1 vandal resistant passage lever for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors.
5) My existing door is bored 2-3/4 inch backset. Will the Emtek Helios still work?
Yes, but you have to say so on the order. The standard latch shipped with the Helios is a 2-3/8 inch backset unit; 2-3/4 inch is a selectable option. Measure from the door edge to the center of the bore hole before ordering, since 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inch are the two backsets in general use and getting it wrong means the latch will not line up with the bore.
6) What is the CF mechanism upgrade on Emtek levers and is it worth choosing?
CF stands for concealed fastener. Choose the CF Mechanism Upgrade and the inside rosettes have no exposed screws, so the interior face reads clean, which is what most people want on a bedroom or bath door. That upgrade brings a 28 degree rotation latch with it. The other two choices are the 28 Degree Rotation Latch on its own, or No Thanks for the standard exposed-screw rosette.
7) Which finishes does the Helios lever come in, and will it match my other Emtek hardware?
Seven finishes: Flat Black (US19), Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Nickel Lifetime (US14), Satin Brass (US4), Satin Nickel (US15), and Unlacquered Brass (US3NL). Those are standard US finish codes, so matching to hardware you already have is a matter of matching the code. Unlacquered brass is the one that will change over time; it has no clear coat and will patina, so do not expect it to stay identical to a lacquered piece next to it.
8) Can I mix rosette shapes across the doors in one house with the Emtek Helios lever?
Yes. The Helios lever is offered with Disk, Modern, Modern Rectangular, Neos, Square, and Urban Modern rosettes, and Emtek states it can be ordered with any brass rosette. So you can run a square rosette in one wing and a disk in another and keep the same lever throughout. There is also a split finish option if you want a different finish inside than out.
9) I need a matching passage lever for the hall doors, not a privacy lock. What do I order?
The Helios is privacy only, so it locks from the inside and has no keyway. For hall, closet, and other doors that just need to latch, order a passage function lever instead. Emtek builds Helios in passage, and the same finishes and rosettes carry across so the doors still match. If you are furnishing a whole floor and want a lower-cost residential passage lever, the Kwikset 200BRNL Breton passage lever set is a Grade 3 option covering 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors.
10) Will this Emtek lever work on a 2 inch thick solid door?
Yes. The Helios privacy set covers 1-3/8 inch through 2-1/4 inch door thickness with the standard 2-1/8 inch bore prep, so a 2 inch slab is inside the range with room left over. Enter your door thickness on the order so the correct spindle and screw length ship with the set.
11) Is the Emtek Helios lever solid brass or plated zinc?
