Emtek Sandcast Bronze Square Backplate for Cabinet Knob

Surface mount. The square bronze plate sits on the face of the drawer or cabinet door and is captured by the cabinet knob's own screw through the existing single bore, so no extra holes or fasteners are needed if a knob is already installed.

Emtek classes the Sandcast Bronze line as residential. For apartment turns, custom homes, and hospitality millwork it is the right kind of part; for a high-traffic commercial casework spec where cycle-rated hardware is called out on the drawings, look at a commercial-grade cabinet line instead.

That is the usual reason to add one. Because the plate surface mounts around the knob screw, a 1-1/4 inch square of the cabinet face is hidden behind it, which covers the halo of wear or finish shadow left by a previous knob or rosette of that size or smaller. It will not cover a second bore hole from a pull, since it only carries the one knob screw.

Medium Bronze in the 1-1/4 inch square is Emtek part number SPC86342MB. Finish suffixes run FB for Flat Black Bronze, MB for Medium Bronze, and TWB for Tumbled White Bronze, so specify the suffix on the order to avoid a mixed-finish delivery across a kitchen.

Bronze is the material and the substrate, sandcast rather than plated over a different base metal, which is why the finishes vary slightly plate to plate and develop character with handling. The product spec also lists brass in its material note, so expect a cast copper-alloy part, not a stamped steel plate with a coating.
