EMTEK-CONICAL-STEM-DARK-WALNUT-KNOB-PRIVACY

Emtek EMTEK-CONICAL-STEM-DARK-WALNUT-KNOB-PRIVACY – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What comes in the box with the Emtek SELECT privacy knob set?
It ships as a complete set: both sides of the knob with the rosettes you select, the latch, strike plate and dust box. The latch is a 28 degree rotation type, and you can take the faceplate with round or square corners to match the existing mortise in the door edge.
2) Do I need to specify handing on the Emtek conical stem walnut knob?
Yes, it is ordered left hand or right hand. The wood handle and stem are permanently affixed to each other, so the assembly cannot be rotated in the field the way a reversible lever can. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your left it is left hand.
3) What is a comparable privacy lockset to the Emtek SELECT brass conical stem Dark Walnut knob if a decorative residential look is not required?
For a bed/bath opening where the walnut living finish is not the point, the Baldwin Estate 5103 Privacy Lever with 5048 rose is another residential privacy set, and the Kwikset 300BRNL RDT Breton privacy lever is a Grade 3 privacy set covering 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, the same door thickness range the Emtek SELECT knob covers. The Emtek differs in being a knob on a conical brass stem rather than a lever.
4) Which lock should be specified instead of the Emtek SELECT Dark Walnut privacy knob when the door needs to be keyed?
The Emtek SELECT brass conical stem Dark Walnut knob is non-keyed, so it cannot secure an entry or storeroom opening. Keyed alternatives include the Cal-Royal AG00 entrance lever with a 6-pin Schlage C keyway and a 2-3/8 inch backset, the Cal-Royal AG05 Grade 2 storeroom lever with a deadlocking latchbolt, and the Hager 2525 Grade 2 commercial cylindrical entry lock with a lever handle.
5) Which rosettes and finishes can I get with the SELECT Dark Walnut knob?
Seven rosette shapes: Disk, Square, Quincy, Urban Modern, Modern Rectangular, Watford and Wilshire. Rosette and stem finishes run Flat Black (US19), French Antique (US7), Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Chrome (US26), Lifetime Polished Nickel (US14), Satin Brass (US4), Satin Nickel (US15), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), Pewter (US15A), Matte White and Satin Rose Gold. Pewter, Matte White and Satin Rose Gold are limited to the Disk, Square, Urban Modern and Quincy rosettes.
6) Does the walnut on the Emtek SELECT knob change color over time?
It does. The walnut handle carries a living finish that ages and darkens with use, which is why it is specified for interior openings only. If you want a set of doors to stay visually identical for years, a metal handle is the better choice.
7) Is the Emtek SELECT privacy knob keyed, and how does it unlock in an emergency?
It is non-keyed. Privacy function means a thumbturn or push button locks it from the inside for a bedroom or bath, with an emergency release on the outside side rather than a cylinder. Nothing to key, nothing to add to a master key system.
8) Can I match this walnut knob with other Emtek SELECT trim on the same job?
The conical stem knob can be ordered with any brass rosette in the SELECT range, so you can carry one rosette shape across passage, privacy and dummy openings in a house. The set is solid brass on the stem and rosette side with the walnut handle permanently fixed to the stem.
9) Can a dummy trim be used in place of the Emtek SELECT Dark Walnut conical stem privacy knob on a non-operating door?
No. The Emtek SELECT brass conical stem Dark Walnut knob is supplied as a complete set with a 28 degree rotation latch, strike plate and dust box, so it operates a latch. On a fixed or inactive leaf, a dummy trim is the correct part: the Baldwin Estate 5103 half dummy lever is offered in left hand and right hand versions, the Callan Bentley is a Grade 2 dummy lever, and the BEST 7KC single dummy trim is a Grade 2 non-keyed dummy.
10) Does the Emtek SELECT Dark Walnut conical stem knob meet an ADA lever requirement?
The Emtek SELECT brass conical stem Dark Walnut set is a knob on a conical brass stem, and knobs are generally not accepted where lever-style operation is required. Where ADA compliance is called out, the Lockey 2835 mechanical pushbutton keyless lever lock is described as ADA compliant and covers 1 3/16 inch to 2 inch doors.
11) For a thicker door than the Emtek SELECT Dark Walnut privacy knob covers, what locks span a wider thickness range?
The Emtek SELECT brass conical stem Dark Walnut knob covers 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. For thicker leaves, the Dexter C1000 passage and asylum functions cover 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch, the Falcon K101 Grade 1 passage lock covers 1-3/8 inch to 2-1/4 inch, and the Deltana 6201 Manchester entry lever covers 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch.
12) Is the Emtek SELECT Dark Walnut privacy knob handed, and which comparable sets avoid handing at ordering?
The Emtek SELECT brass conical stem Dark Walnut knob is ordered in left handing or right handing, so the door swing must be confirmed before the order. If handing is unknown, the Falcon B101 and Falcon K101 are described as non-handed lever locks, and the Kwikset 200DL Delta passage lever is reversible.
13) How far does the Emtek SELECT knob stick out from the door face?
Projection is 2.25 inches off the face of the door. Worth checking where a door swings back against a wall or a cabinet, or where two doors are close together in a corner.
14) I want a two-tone look, different finish on each side of the door. Is that possible?
Yes, a split finish can be specified when ordering, along with the backset (2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch) and the actual door thickness if it is not standard. Handing, rosette and the rosette/stem finish are the other choices to lock down before the order goes in.
15) If a keyless code-entry lock is wanted on a bathroom or bedroom door instead of the Emtek SELECT Dark Walnut privacy knob, what are the options?
The Emtek SELECT brass conical stem Dark Walnut knob is a mechanical, non-electronic set. Code-entry alternatives include the Delaney LP250 electronic keypad leverlock, rated Grade 2, and the Lockey 1150 heavy duty mechanical keypad lever set, which covers 1-1/8 inch to 2 inch doors and needs no power.
