Emtek Wrought Steel Leversets - Normandy Lever, Dummy (Pair)

The Emtek Normandy Wrought Steel dummy pair is trim only. There is no latch and no turning mechanism, so the levers are fixed and purely for pulling or pushing. Sold as a pair, it puts a lever on both faces of a door, which is what you want on French doors, closet doors, or an inactive leaf held by a ball catch or roller catch. If the door has to actually latch shut, this is the wrong function, and you should be ordering a passage set instead.

No boring needed. The Normandy dummy pair is surface mounted, so it screws to the door face without a 2-1/8 inch cross bore or a latch bore. That is what makes it the usual pick for a slab door someone does not want to drill, or for a leaf that already has a catch doing the holding.

The Emtek Normandy is a residential dummy lever pair with a wrought steel lever on a tubular chassis. On the commercial side, the BEST 9K Series 1DT is a Grade 1 non-keyed heavy duty single dummy trim cylindrical lever, and the Accentra 455LN Augusta is a Grade 1 heavy duty single dummy cylindrical lever in the 5400 Series. Both are single dummy trim, so a two-door opening takes two of them, while the Normandy is supplied as a pair. Note the Normandy is designated residential, so for a facility standardizing on a Grade 1 dummy across a building the BEST 9K or Accentra 455LN is the direct commercial counterpart.

A dummy lever has no latch mechanism, so it will not hold a door closed. A dummy lever, which is what the Normandy wrought steel set is, has no locking function at all. For bed and bath doors, a privacy lever is the correct substitution. If the door is a closet or pantry slab that only needs a pull on the corridor side, a half dummy covers it; a two-sided inactive door takes the pair or two half dummies.

The BEST 7KC Series single dummy trim cylindrical lever lock is Grade 2 medium duty and non-keyed, and the Callan Bentley is a Grade 2 dummy lever. Both are dummy function, same as the Emtek Normandy wrought steel lever, which is a non-keyed dummy set. The BEST 7KC and Callan Bentley are single dummy trim, so an inactive pair of doors needs two, where the Normandy is ordered as a pair.

They are not interchangeable. Passage levers such as the Falcon B101 Grade 2 non-handed cylindrical passage lever, the Design Hardware X75 Grade 1 flat lever passage lockset for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Arrow GL01 Grade 2 Sierra lever passage lock for 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch doors all carry a latchbolt and require a bored door prep with a latch and strike. Substituting a passage lever onto an opening prepped for a dummy means adding the latch bore and strike prep; substituting a dummy onto a passage opening leaves the door unlatched.

The Emtek Normandy wrought steel dummy pair is ordered by handing, left hand or right hand. Baldwin handles it the same way, with the Estate 5103 half dummy split into a left hand version and a right hand version. Passage levers in the commercial lines go the other direction: the Falcon B101 and the Falcon K101 both use non-handed levers, so one part number covers either swing. If a fleet order is being placed for many doors, the Emtek and Baldwin dummies need a door-by-door hand count, while the non-handed Falcon passage sets do not.
