Metallics EC44B – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Metallics EC44B work for hanging a fixture from 1/4-20 threaded rod?
Yes, that is the intended pairing. The 1/4-20 thread mates directly to 1/4-20 rod, and the 1-1/2 inch body gives enough thread engagement to run it well onto the rod before you load the eye. Confirm the fixture weight against your hanger method, since the coupling itself carries no stated load rating.
2) Is the Metallics EC44B zinc plated steel or stainless?
Steel with a zinc plating, per the EC44B description ("St -zn"). Zinc plated steel is for dry interior use. For damp, corrosive, or exterior runs you want stainless hardware instead.
3) How many eye couplings come in a box of Metallics EC44B?
It ships as a box of 2,500 pieces. That is a bulk contractor pack, not a handful, so it suits a shop stocking for repeat fixture-hanging work rather than a one-off repair.
4) What is an eye coupling like the EC44B actually used for?
It is a threaded coupling with a closed eye on one end: the threaded side takes 1/4-20 rod or a 1/4-20 threaded fastener, and the eye gives you a loop to hook wire, a chain, an S-hook, or a cable onto. Electricians use them to suspend lighting and light raceway from structure. It is an electrical fitting/connector type part, not a load-rated rigging eye.
