1) Can I use F4P P-Series wire nuts on aluminum wire?
No. The F4P P-Series twist-on connectors are rated for copper conductors only. For an aluminum-to-copper splice you need a connector specifically listed for AL/CU; using a copper-only wire nut on aluminum is not a listed application.
2) Which color F4P wire connector do I need for 12 AWG splices?
Colors on the P-Series map to wire range, so pick by range rather than habit. For 12 AWG work the yellow (18-10 AWG or 22-10 AWG), red (22-10 AWG or 18-8 AWG), green (14-10 AWG) and tan (22-8 AWG) all cover 12 AWG. Gray, blue and orange 22-14 AWG versions do not go up to 12. The largest is blue at 17-6 AWG.
3) Are these wire nuts OK in a wet or outdoor location?
No. P-Series connectors are rated for dry locations. Outdoor junctions, wet wells, irrigation splices or anything in a damp environment need a waterproof or gel-filled connector instead.
4) Are F4P wire connectors UL listed and CSA certified for commercial jobs?
Yes, the P-Series carries both a UL listing and CSA certification, which is what an inspector on a commercial or multi-family job will look for.
5) Will F4P P-Series connectors hold up in a 277/480V lighting circuit?
They are rated 600 V, with a 1000 V rating in lighting and sign circuits, so 120/277 V fixture whips and 480 V branch circuits within a 600 V system are covered.
6) What temperature can these twist-on connectors take inside a hot fixture canopy?
Maximum rated temperature is 105 C (221 F), which covers standard 90 C THHN conductors and typical recessed or surface fixture canopy temperatures. The shell is flame-retardant thermoplastic with a zinc-plated square-wire spring inside.
7) Do I need a different connector for a single 6 AWG ground splice?
The blue 17-6 AWG version is the only one in the P-Series that reaches 6 AWG; every other color tops out at 8, 10 or 14 AWG. For larger than 6 AWG copper, a twist-on will not do the job and you need a mechanical or compression connector.
8) How many F4P wire connectors come in a box?
Each box holds 100 connectors of a single color and wire range, which is the usual way an electrical contractor stocks a van or a job trailer by size.
9) Which F4P connector is physically biggest, for a crowded box?
