The F4P PIWC-4-B and PIWC-5-B push-in connectors provide quick, reliable, and tool-free wire terminations for residential, commercial, and signage applications. Accepting 22–12 AWG solid or stranded copper conductors, these connectors are rated for up to 600 V (or 1000 V for fixture/sign installations). Designed with a flame-retardant polycarbonate body, each model features a compact, color-coded housing—clear for 4-pole, blue for 5-pole—and includes an integrated test port for safe, easy inspection. Supplied in 300-count bulk bags, they’re ideal for efficient, high-volume jobs.

F4P F4P PIWC-4-B – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between the clear and blue F4P push-in connectors?
Pole count, and the color tells you which is which at a glance in the box. Clear is the 4-pole PIWC-4-B, blue is the 5-pole PIWC-5-B. Four poles joins four conductors, five joins five. Both take the same 22 to 12 AWG solid or stranded copper and both come 300 to a bag, so the only decision is how many wires land in the splice.
2) Can I use F4P push-in connectors in a lighted sign at 1000 volts?
Yes for fixture and sign work. The PIWC connectors are rated to 600 V general purpose and 1000 V in fixture and sign installations, which is the rating a sign shop needs for secondary side terminations inside a listed enclosure. The connector is UL Listed.
3) Can F4P push-in connectors be used on aluminum branch circuit wiring?
No. The PIWC connectors are specified for copper conductors, solid or stranded, 22 to 12 AWG. Aluminum splices need a connector listed for aluminum with the correct antioxidant provision, so on an older aluminum-wired building these are the wrong part for the branch conductors.
4) Are F4P push-in wire connectors rated for an unheated attic or an outdoor sign cabinet?
The operating range on the PIWC connectors runs minus 40 F to 221 F (minus 30 C to 105 C), so unconditioned attics, crawl spaces, and enclosed sign cabinets are inside the envelope. The body is flame retardant polycarbonate rated UL 94V-2. It still needs to sit in an appropriate enclosure, since the connector rating does not make the location dry or wet rated on its own.
5) Do I need a tool or a wire nut to make up a splice with these push-in connectors?
No tools. The PIWC is a tool-free push-in connector: strip the conductor and push it into the port. That is the practical difference from a twist-on wire nut, which needs a hand twist and a re-check on stranded wire. For a crew making up hundreds of fixture whips or device boxes, the 300-count bag is what makes the push-in worth switching to.
6) How do you test a circuit without pulling the wire out of a push-in connector?
Each PIWC connector has an integrated test port, so a meter probe or test lead goes into the port and reads the conductor with the splice still made up. Troubleshooting a lighting branch does not mean breaking the splice apart and remaking it, which is the main reason maintenance crews standardize on these over twist-ons.
7) Should I order the 4-pole or the 5-pole push-in connector for a multi-fixture lighting run?
Count the conductors landing in the splice, not the fixtures. The F4P PIWC line comes 4-pole and 5-pole only, clear and blue respectively. A home run plus three fixture taps on one color is four conductors, so the 4-pole clear covers it; add a fourth tap and you need the 5-pole blue. Both are sold in 300-count bags, so a job with mixed splice counts usually means one bag of each.
8) How many connectors come in a bag of F4P PIWC push-in connectors?
300 per bag, and the bag is a single pole count: 300 of the clear 4-pole or 300 of the blue 5-pole. Bulk bag is the only pack, so stocking both configurations on a truck means two bags.
