Falcon 1990EO 44IN P28 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What doors is the Falcon 1990EO narrow stile exit device designed for?
The 1990EO is specifically designed for narrow stile doors with limited rail width. It works with aluminum storefront doors, curtain wall doors, and other narrow frame applications where standard exit devices won't fit.
2) What does "exit only" mean for this device?
Exit only means the device allows egress from inside but provides no re-entry from outside. There is no exterior trim or handle. This configuration is common for emergency exits and secondary doors.
3) How does the concealed vertical rod mechanism work?
Concealed vertical rods extend into the door frame at top and bottom when locked. Pushing the crossbar retracts both rods simultaneously. The rods are hidden within the door stile for clean appearance and security.
4) What is the maximum door width for the 44-inch device?
The 44-inch designation refers to the crossbar length. This typically accommodates doors up to 48 inches wide. Always verify against manufacturer templates and your specific door dimensions before ordering.
5) What finish options are available for the 1990EO?
Falcon typically offers standard finishes including aluminum, dark bronze, and black. Specific finish availability may vary by model. Contact us to confirm current finish options for your project requirements.
6) Does this exit device meet fire door requirements?
The 1990EO can be used on fire-rated assemblies when properly listed and installed per manufacturer instructions. Verify the specific listing requirements and installation details for your fire door application.
7) What grade rating does the Falcon 1990EO carry?
Falcon exit devices typically meet Grade 1 commercial requirements per ANSI/BHMA standards. This provides the highest level of performance for heavy-duty commercial applications with high traffic volumes.
8) Can dogging or hex key dogging be added to this device?
Dogging options depend on local fire and building codes. Some models may accept dogging mechanisms while others are non-dogging for fire door compliance. Check your specific model capabilities and local code requirements.
9) What tools are needed for installation?
Installation typically requires standard door hardware tools including drill, bits, jig saw for mortising, and hand tools. Follow manufacturer templates precisely for rod hole locations and door preparation requirements.
10) How do you adjust the latch projection on vertical rod devices?
Rod projection is typically adjusted via threaded rod ends or adjustment screws at the top and bottom strike points. Make small adjustments to ensure proper engagement without binding. Test operation after each adjustment.
11) Are replacement parts available for the 1990EO series?
Yes, Falcon maintains parts availability for current production models. Common service parts include crossbars, rod assemblies, and internal mechanisms. Keep model and finish information for accurate parts ordering.
12) What other Falcon exit devices work with narrow stile doors?
The Falcon 1900 series offers various narrow stile configurations including rim and mortise options. Consider models with different functions like passage set capability if re-entry access is needed for your application.
