Falcon 650389 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I repair a Falcon vertical rod exit device instead of replacing the whole unit?
For a failed top latch, yes. The 650389 is a genuine Falcon replacement top latch case, so a maintenance tech can restore the latching function of a 19, 24, 25 or XX-V Series device without pulling and re-prepping the door for a complete new exit device. That is the usual call on an occupied opening where downtime matters.
2) I have a Falcon rim exit device, not a vertical rod one. Is 650389 the right part?
No. The 650389 is a top latch case, a part that only exists on vertical rod devices that latch into the frame head. A rim device latches into a strike on the frame face and has no top case, so this part has nothing to mount to. Order a rim device latch part for that opening instead.
3) Does the Falcon 650389 come in a finish to match my existing exit device hardware?
It ships unfinished. That lets you field-apply a finish to match the rest of the device or leave it as-is where the case is concealed at the top rail. If you need an out-of-the-box finish match on a visible component, plan on painting or plating it yourself.
4) What exactly do I ask for when ordering a Falcon top latch case?
Ask for Falcon part 650389, top latch case. It is sold as a single part number with no finish, hand or size options to specify, so the only thing to confirm on your end is that the device is from the 19, 24, 25 or XX-V family.
5) Is the Falcon 650389 latch case rated for commercial door traffic?
It is a commercial-grade component from Falcon's professional exit device line, and is specified for commercial rather than residential use. Typical placements are offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, government buildings and multi-tenant residential.
