Falcon AE77029-LH 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Falcon AE77029-LH Avalon lever escutcheon work on a right-hand door?
No. The AE77029-LH is built as a left-hand assembly, and the lever and spring cage orientation is fixed for that handing. Putting it on a right-hand opening leaves the lever pointing the wrong way, so order the right-hand version of the Avalon Napa escutcheon trim for those doors. Determine handing from the outside of the door: hinges on your left, the door swings away from you, that is left hand.
2) What Falcon locks does the AE77029 Avalon lever with Napa escutcheon fit?
It is a replacement trim component for the Falcon MA Series lockset platform. The Avalon lever, Napa escutcheon plate and spring cage come as one assembly, so it restores the escutcheon side of an MA Series lock rather than replacing the lock body. It is not trim for Falcon's rose-style or cylindrical lines.
3) Does this Falcon escutcheon trim include the lock body, latch or cylinder?
No. What you get is trim: the Avalon lever, the Napa escutcheon plate assembly and the integrated spring cage. The MA Series lock case, latch and cylinder are separate. If the lock chassis itself is worn or the cylinder needs rekeying, order those parts as well.
4) My tenant's lever droops and won't return level. Will replacing the escutcheon assembly fix it?
Usually yes, if the sag is in the trim. The spring cage inside this assembly is what returns the lever to horizontal, and it ships as part of the AE77029 unit, so a worn or broken cage gets replaced along with the lever and escutcheon in one part. If the lever returns fine but the latch does not retract, the problem is in the MA Series lock case instead.
5) What finishes does the Falcon AE77029-LH Avalon escutcheon assembly come in?
Six finishes: 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 625 Bright Chrome, 626 Satin Chrome, 630 Satin Stainless and 643E Aged Bronze. For a repair on an existing opening, match the BHMA number stamped or specified on the original trim rather than eyeballing the color, since 605 and 606 or 625 and 626 look very similar in photos but not on the door.
6) I need an outside lever and spindle for a Corbin Russwin mortise lock, not a Falcon. What should I look at?
The Falcon AE77029 Avalon assembly only fits Falcon MA Series locks, so it will not serve a Corbin Russwin mortise. For that platform, the Corbin Russwin 483F80 is a Grade 1 ML2000 Series outside lever and spindle for a 1-3/4 inch thick door, in the Corridor/Dormitory function. Mortise trim is brand and series specific, so match the lock series before ordering.
7) I need a lever trim repair part for a corridor function mortise lock - what are my options?
It depends on the lock body already in the door. For Falcon MA Series locksets, the AE77029-LH supplies the Avalon lever with the Napa escutcheon and spring cage in a left-hand configuration, offered in 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 625 Bright Chrome, 626 Satin Chrome, 630 Satin Stainless and 643E Aged Bronze. For a Corbin Russwin ML2000 Series mortise lock, the 483F80 is the outside lever and spindle and is rated Grade 1 with a corridor/dormitory function, for a 1-3/4 inch thick door. Match the part to the lock body manufacturer and series rather than to the lever look.
8) What is the difference between buying a full escutcheon assembly and just a lever with spindle?
The Falcon AE77029-LH is a complete trim assembly: it includes the Avalon lever, the Napa escutcheon plate and an integrated spring cage that returns the lever, so it restores both the visible plate and the lever return mechanism on an MA Series lock. The Corbin Russwin 483F80 is supplied as an outside lever and spindle for the ML2000 Series, so it addresses the lever and its drive connection rather than the escutcheon plate. Choose the assembly when the plate or spring return is worn, and the lever-and-spindle part when only the handle and drive need replacing.
9) Is this Falcon lever trim rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
It is a commercial part, catalogued for commercial use and built as an OEM-quality replacement for institutional openings like schools, healthcare, government buildings and multi-tenant residential corridors. It is not a light-duty residential lever.
10) I'm standardizing lever trim across a building. Can I mix Avalon escutcheon trim with rose trim on other doors?
Mechanically they are independent, so different openings can carry different trim. Visually they will not match: the Napa escutcheon is a full plate behind the lever, while rose trim is a small round cover. If the goal is a consistent look down a corridor, keep the same escutcheon style and the same BHMA finish number on every door, and remember the handing splits left and right across the openings.
