Blackburn FBE24 FLEXIBLE BRAID 168KCMIL, 24 IN LONG

The FBE24 is a flat, extra-flexible tin-plated copper braid jumper with a lug pad at each end, 24 inches long, rated 168 KCMIL. It bonds two points that need to stay electrically connected while one of them moves or vibrates, such as across switchgear doors, bus joints, transformer pads, rotating or hinged equipment, and expansion joints in a grounding run. The braid construction lets the connection flex without work-hardening a solid conductor.

Two holes per end. It is a 2-hole braid connector, so each terminal pad takes a pair of bolts, which is what most switchgear, bus bar and ground bar pads are drilled for on conductors this size. If your pad is drilled for a single bolt, a 2-hole pad will not land on it without redrilling.

The FBE24 braid is tin-plated copper. The plating slows oxidation on the strands and on the terminal pads, which matters on a braid because the enormous surface area of fine strands corrodes faster than solid wire. It also makes the pad compatible with aluminum bus without the bare copper to aluminum galvanic problem.

The FBE24 is catalogued at a 24 inch cable length. When you lay out the run, allow slack: a bonding braid should never be pulled taut between two pads, since the whole point is to absorb movement. If your pad centers are close to 24 inches apart, step up to a longer braid.

Not where the connection moves. A 168 KCMIL stranded cable and lug will carry the current, but repeated flexing at a hinge, a vibrating motor frame or an expansion joint fatigues stranded conductor and lugs. The FBE24 is built as an extra-flexible flat braid specifically for those moving or vibrating joints. For a fixed, static bond, ordinary cable and compression lugs are the simpler choice.

The FBE24 is sold as a single braid, each, with no hardware. You supply the bolts, nuts, flat and lock washers to suit the pad drilling and the bus material, and torque them to the equipment manufacturer's values.
