ATLA125-15 is a 1-1/4 inch trade size flexible metal conduit with a steel core and a PVC jacket. Because it is jacketed flex rather than bare FMC, it takes 1-1/4 inch liquidtight-style connectors sized for jacketed flex; bare FMC (Greenfield) connectors of the same trade size will not seal on the jacket. Order connectors separately, they are not included with the coil.
2) Is this flexible conduit or is it prewired whip with conductors inside?
It is empty raceway only. The ATLA125-15 coil is 1-1/4 inch flexible steel conduit with a PVC jacket, supplied with no conductors and no fittings, so pull your own wire and order connectors and any bonding hardware separately.
3) Why choose PVC jacketed steel flex instead of plain FMC for a motor or rooftop unit connection?
The jacket is the reason. A bare steel FMC core is fine in dry interior walls and ceilings, but the PVC jacket on the ATLA125-15 covers the convolutions so water, oil, dust and washdown cannot get into the core, which is what you want at pump and motor terminations, rooftop equipment and anywhere the flex is exposed. The steel core still gives crush resistance a nonmetallic liquidtight conduit does not.
4) What color is the jacket on the ATLA125-15 flex?
Grey PVC over the steel core. That matches the standard grey liquidtight flex used on most commercial mechanical and electrical equipment, so it blends with existing runs rather than standing out the way a black or orange jacket would.
