Metallics WGT25 Gasket Insul Faam Tog Switch PE (Jar 25)

The WGT25 is cut for a toggle switch opening, so it sits behind a standard single-gang toggle switch wall plate. Metallics makes the same insulating foam gasket in three cut patterns: toggle switch, duplex receptacle, and GFI or Decora. If the device is a receptacle or a Decora style rocker, you need one of those other patterns instead, not the WGT25.

They seal the air path behind the wall plate. Switch and outlet boxes on outside walls leak conditioned air through the device opening, and the WGT25 gasket goes between the box and the cover plate to stop that heat and cold loss. It is made of closed-cell polyethylene insulating foam, so it also acts as an insulator rather than a wick for moisture.

The WGT25 ships as a jar of 25 toggle switch gaskets, and 25 each is the order minimum. For a property manager doing a whole building, that is one jar per 25 switch locations. Metallics lists other sizes and quantities on request.

Installation is a cover plate job, not a wiring job. You take off the wall plate, lay the foam gasket over the device opening, and reinstall the plate over it. The switch itself stays wired in place. Standard practice is still to kill the breaker before pulling any plate off a live device.
