Klein Tools 50660 Glow in the Dark Fish Tape, 40-Foot

No. Klein's instructions for the 50660 are explicit: do not use any fish tape on or near live circuits, and use extreme caution around electrical equipment. The tape is fiberglass, but the eyelet tip and the anchoring connector are metal/nylon hardware and the tool is not rated as an insulated or live-work device. De-energize and lock out the circuit first, and wear approved eye protection while feeding, pulling, or rewinding.

The 50660 carries 40 feet of fiberglass tape measuring 0.153 inch (12 m x 3.9 mm) across. That length suits branch-circuit work, short wall and ceiling fishes, and typical device-to-panel runs. For long commercial homeruns you want a longer reel; 40 feet is the working limit here.

Yes, the tape is fully removable from the case on the 50660, which lets you use it loose for pass-through wire feeding rather than always paying it out of the reel. There's an alignment mark molded into the case so it drops back into the housing correctly. One safety note from Klein: never remove the screws while the tape is still coiled inside the reel.

Yes. The anchoring end uses a stainless steel connector built to take Klein fish rod attachments, specifically Cat. No. 56511. That lets you join the tape to a rod set for pushing through insulated walls or over a dropped ceiling where tape alone wants to buckle.

Two reasons. The tape and nylon tip on the 50660 glow, so you can see the tip in a dark ceiling cavity, crawlspace, or unlit panel room instead of feeling for it. And fiberglass is non-conductive, which steel is not, so it's the choice electricians prefer around equipment (still de-energized, per Klein's warning). Steel tape pushes harder over long distances; fiberglass is easier to see and gentler on existing conductors.

It's a photoluminescent tape, so it has to be exposed to light to charge. Klein made the housing clear specifically so the glow material charges while the reel sits in the case on your way to the job. Pull it out in a dark ceiling and the tape and tip are already lit.

It's a one-pound tool with a 9 inch reel diameter, overall 11.3 x 9.06 x 1.5 inches. Slim enough to slide into a bag or bucket alongside your hand tools rather than riding loose in the van.

Klein specifies an impact-resistant case and handle on the 50660, and the tool is made in the USA with global components. It's a clear housing rather than opaque, which is a function of the glow charging, not a thinner shell.
