1) What trade sizes does the Greenlee K2P Slug-Buster knockout punch come in?
The K2P Slug-Buster punches cover four conduit trade sizes: 1/2 inch (K2P-1/2-B), 1 inch (K2P-1), 1-1/4 inch (K2P-1-1/4) and 1-1/2 inch (K2P-1-1/2). Each punch is sized to the conduit trade size, not the raw hole diameter, so order by the conduit you are running. The 1 inch punch, for example, cuts a 1.36 inch (34.6 mm) hole.
2) How thick a panel can a Greenlee Slug-Buster punch cut through?
Rated for 10 gauge mild steel, or 12 gauge stainless steel. Mild steel is what the punch is optimized for; stainless capability is limited, so heavy stainless enclosures are outside its range. For standard panelboards, gutters, and junction boxes in mild steel it is well within capacity.
3) Do I need a hydraulic driver to use the K2P punch, or can I run it with a wrench?
Either works. The Slug-Buster punch is built to run on Greenlee battery-hydraulic knockout drivers, manual-hydraulic drivers, or a ratchet wrench setup. On a service call where you are cutting one or two holes, the ratchet wrench is enough; for repetitive panel work the battery-hydraulic driver saves the labor.
4) Will a Slug-Buster punch work on a stainless steel enclosure?
Only with limits. The punch cuts stainless up to 12 gauge, but it is optimized for mild steel and stainless capability is described as limited. It also handles brass, copper, aluminum, fiberglass and plastics. If you are punching stainless regularly or heavier than 12 gauge, this is not the punch to standardize on.
5) What does the split-slug design actually do for me on the job?
The punch profile splits the slug as it cuts, so the waste disc comes out in pieces instead of wedging in the draw stud or dropping loose into a live panel. That is the difference on overhead or in-place enclosure work where fishing a whole slug out costs you more time than the cut itself.
6) Does the K2P punch include a draw stud and die?
The K2P is the punch component itself, sold by trade size. Driving it requires a Greenlee knockout driver (battery-hydraulic or manual-hydraulic) or a ratchet wrench system with the matching draw stud, which you supply or order separately.
