HAGER COMMERCIAL HINGES
Today, the Hager name is synonymous with architectural hinges. In fact, they are the industry’s premiere designer and manufacturer of architectural hinges, with a product line that offers one of the widest varieties of sizes, shapes, and finishes--all of which meet or exceed ANSI standards.
- Hinges are manufactured in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.1. Self-closing hinges and pivots are in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.17 using three hinges per opening on a 3’0” x 7’0” x 1-3/4” (914 mm x 2134 mm x 44 mm) door.
- Round corners are available in 1/4” (6 mm) (standard) or 5/8” (16 mm) radius.
- Full Mortise Both leaves are mortised, one leaf in the door and one leaf in the frame (wood door or hollow metal door with wood frame or hollow metal frame). Example: BB1279, 4-1/2” x 4-1/2” (114 mm x 114 mm), US26D.
- Half Mortise One leaf is mortised in the door and the other is surface applied to the frame (hollow metal door with channel iron frame). Example: BB1109, 4-1/2” (114 mm), US26D.
- Full Surface Both leaves are applied to the surface, one to the door and the other to the frame (metal core door or hollow metal door with channel iron frame). Example: BB2171, 5” (127 mm), USP.
- Half Surface One leaf is mortised in the frame and the other is surface applied to the face of the door (wood door with wood frame or metal core door with hollow metal frame) Example: BB1163, 5” (152 mm), US26D.

Hager 1191432D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Hager 1191 full mortise plain bearing hinge designed for?
The Hager 1191 is a heavy-duty full mortise hinge with plain bearings. It's designed for commercial and institutional doors requiring reliable performance. The 5-knuckle design provides enhanced strength and durability.
2) What door weights and sizes does this hinge support?
Verify specific weight ratings with manufacturer specifications. Generally suitable for standard commercial door applications. Check door thickness, width, and weight against manufacturer templates before installation.
3) How do I determine the correct handing for this hinge?
Stand on the side where the door swings away from you. If hinges are on the right, it's right-hand. If on the left, it's left-hand. The Hager 1191 is available in both right and left-hand configurations.
4) What finishes are available for the Hager 1191?
Hager hinges typically come in multiple finishes including US26D satin chrome, US32D stainless steel, and others. Check product specifications for available finish options that match your hardware suite.
5) Is this hinge suitable for fire-rated door applications?
Verify fire rating compliance with manufacturer documentation and local codes. Many Hager hinges are available with fire ratings. Check specific model certifications for your application requirements.
6) What's the difference between plain bearing and ball bearing hinges?
Plain bearing hinges use metal-on-metal contact surfaces. They're suitable for standard-use doors. Ball bearing hinges offer smoother operation and longer life for high-frequency applications.
7) How many hinges do I need per door?
Standard practice uses 3 hinges for doors up to 90 inches tall. Heavier doors or those over 90 inches typically require 4 hinges. Check local codes and manufacturer recommendations for your specific application.
8) What tools are needed for installation?
You'll need a router or chisel set, drill with bits, screwdriver, measuring tools, and manufacturer's template. Follow Hager's installation instructions and use proper mortising techniques for best results.
9) How often should these hinges be maintained?
Plain bearing hinges benefit from periodic lubrication with light machine oil. Frequency depends on usage and environment. Clean hinges regularly and check for loose screws during routine maintenance.
10) Are replacement parts available for the Hager 1191?
Hager typically provides replacement pins and other components. Contact the manufacturer or check with your supplier for specific part availability. Keep model numbers for accurate part identification.
11) What are alternative models to consider?
Consider other Hager full mortise hinges or equivalent models from manufacturers like Stanley or McKinney. Ball bearing versions offer enhanced performance for high-use applications.
12) Will this hinge work in exterior applications?
Check finish specifications for exterior suitability. Stainless steel finishes typically perform better outdoors. Consider weather sealing and increased maintenance for exterior installations.
