The 3950 is the replacement latch for Hager 2500, 3500 and 3700 Series locks, in the 2-3/8 inch backset. It covers the 25 function and all keyed functions except corridor, so if the lock on the door is a corridor function you need a different latch. It is not a universal latch, it goes back into Hager cylindrical hardware from those three series.
2) My door is prepped for a 2-3/4 inch backset, will the Hager 3950 latch work?
No. The 3950 is built at a 2-3/8 inch backset only, which is the shorter of the two standard cylindrical backsets. On a 2-3/4 inch prep the cross bore sits farther from the door edge and this latch will not reach the spindle. Order the 2-3/4 inch backset latch for the same 2500, 3500 or 3700 Series lock instead.
3) Do I have to pick a square corner or round corner faceplate on the Hager 3950?
Yes, faceplate corner style is a required choice at order time, square corner or round corner. Match it to the mortise already cut in the door edge: a router-cut prep has radiused corners and takes the round corner plate, a chisel-squared prep takes the square corner. Either way the faceplate is 1 inch by 2-1/4 inch, so the pocket size does not change between them.
4) Can I just replace the latch instead of the whole Hager lockset?
