HAGER COMMERCIAL HINGES

Today, the Hager name is synonymous with architectural hinges. In fact, they are the industry’s premiere designer and manufacturer of architectural hinges, with a product line that offers one of the widest varieties of sizes, shapes, and finishes--all of which meet or exceed ANSI standards.
  • Hinges are manufactured in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.1. Self-closing hinges and pivots are in accordance with ANSI/BHMA A156.17 using three hinges per opening on a 3’0” x 7’0” x 1-3/4” (914 mm x 2134 mm x 44 mm) door.
  • Round corners are available in 1/4” (6 mm) (standard) or 5/8” (16 mm) radius.
  • Full Mortise Both leaves are mortised, one leaf in the door and one leaf in the frame (wood door or hollow metal door with wood frame or hollow metal frame). Example: BB1279, 4-1/2” x 4-1/2” (114 mm x 114 mm), US26D.
  • Half Mortise One leaf is mortised in the door and the other is surface applied to the frame (hollow metal door with channel iron frame). Example: BB1109, 4-1/2” (114 mm), US26D.
  • Full Surface Both leaves are applied to the surface, one to the door and the other to the frame (metal core door or hollow metal door with channel iron frame). Example: BB2171, 5” (127 mm), USP.
  • Half Surface One leaf is mortised in the frame and the other is surface applied to the face of the door (wood door with wood frame or metal core door with hollow metal frame) Example: BB1163, 5” (152 mm), US26D.

Hager HAG-BB1168 4-1/2x4-1/2 US26D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door weights can the Hager BB1168 ball bearing hinge support?
The BB1168 is rated as heavy weight and can support doors up to 200 pounds when used in pairs. For doors over 125 pounds, use three hinges for optimal performance and longevity.
2) Is this hinge compatible with wood and metal door frames?
Yes, the BB1168 works with both wood and metal frames. The full mortise design requires precise mortising into both door and frame. Verify frame thickness can accommodate the hinge leaf depth.
3) What is the difference between ball bearing hinges and standard hinges?
Ball bearing hinges use steel ball bearings between the knuckles for smoother operation and longer life. They reduce friction and wear, making them ideal for heavy doors or high-traffic applications.
4) How do I determine door handing for this hinge?
The BB1168 is typically non-handed and works for both left and right swing doors. Install with the pin removable from the secure side of the opening for proper security.
5) What finish options are available for the BB1168?
Check the product specifications for available finishes. Common options include US26D (satin chrome), US26 (bright chrome), US3 (bright brass), and US10B (dark bronze). Verify finish matches other hardware.
6) Does this hinge meet commercial building code requirements?
The BB1168 is designed for commercial applications but verify specific code requirements for your project. Check local codes for fire door applications, accessibility requirements, and security specifications.
7) What screws are included with the BB1168 hinge?
Most Hager hinges include machine screws. For security applications, use screws with non-removable heads on the public side. Verify screw length matches your door and frame thickness.
8) How do I properly mortise for full mortise installation?
Use the manufacturer's template for precise mortising. Cut mortises to exact hinge leaf dimensions. Test fit before final installation. Ensure proper clearances and alignment between door and frame mortises.
9) How often should ball bearing hinges be maintained?
Ball bearing hinges require minimal maintenance. Inspect annually for proper operation and alignment. Clean with mild detergent and water. Avoid over-lubrication as ball bearings are typically pre-lubricated.
10) Are there similar Hager models for different applications?
Yes, Hager offers various ball bearing hinges for different weights and applications. Browse our Hager selection for standard weight, heavy weight, and specialty hinges to match your project needs.
11) What door thickness works with this hinge?
Verify door thickness compatibility in the product specifications. Standard commercial doors are typically 1-3/4 inch thick. Ensure adequate material remains after mortising for structural integrity.
