Halo 996P – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Halo 996P come with the housing and the lamp?
No. The 996P is the trim and eyeball assembly only. You supply the 4 inch recessed housing and the PAR20 lamp separately, so order those alongside it if you are starting from bare ceiling.
2) Eyeball trim or a baffle trim for 4 inch cans, which should I use?
Pick the eyeball when the light has to go somewhere specific: the 996P's eyeball insert pivots and aims, which is what you want for wall washing, artwork, and retail display. A fixed baffle or reflector trim throws straight down and is the better choice for even general ceiling illumination, since an aimed eyeball leaves uneven coverage if you use it as your only ambient source.
3) Will a white eyeball trim match the other recessed trims in my building?
Both the outer trim ring and the eyeball insert are white on the 996P, so it reads as a single white circle on a white ceiling rather than a dark eye in a light ring. For a property manager standardizing a building, that matters: a white-on-white trim blends with painted ceilings, while black or specular eyeball inserts stand out visually even when the ring matches.
4) Is the Halo 996P only for new construction or can I use it as a retrofit?
Either. It is a trim, not a housing, so it mounts into compatible 4 inch recessed cans already in the ceiling as well as into new cans being installed. For a retrofit you are only changing the visible trim and lamp, with no ceiling cutting involved, provided the existing can is a 4 inch aperture.
5) What is the exact part number to order for the 4 inch white Halo eyeball trim?
Order Halo part number 996P. It is sold in a single 4 inch configuration, white trim with white eyeball, so there is no finish or size suffix to specify.
