The SDS9166 has an SDS-Plus shank, so it drops into any SDS-Plus rotary hammer without a chuck key. It will not fit an SDS-Max or spline-drive hammer, and it is not meant for a standard three-jaw drill chuck.
2) Is the Metallics SDS9166 sold as a single bit or in a set?
One bit per pouch. If you are drilling a run of anchor holes and expect to wear the carbide, order multiples - there is no multi-pack or assortment behind this item.
3) Can I use a 9/16 inch SDS-Plus bit to drill steel or wood?
No. An SDS-Plus hammer bit is for masonry work - concrete, block, brick, stone. The hammering action and carbide tip will chew up wood and will not cut steel cleanly. Use a twist bit or hole saw for metal and a spade or auger bit for wood.
4) What anchor size does a 9/16 inch hammer drill bit go with?
A 9/16 inch hole is the common drill size for 1/2 inch wedge anchors and sleeve anchors in concrete, where the anchor body is oversized relative to the bolt diameter. Match the hole size called out on your anchor's data sheet rather than the bolt diameter.
