The dual, preload solution for cylindrical latchbolts and rim exit devices. The HES 7000 Series Electric Strike offers two solutions to address preloaded doors. The in-frame adjustable feature allows the installer to easily adjust the electric strike opening to accommodate the horizontal position of the latchbolt after installation. The preload release function allows the electric strike to operate smoothly throughout the year under varying loads on the door caused by air conditioning pressure, changes in the weather, warped doors or doors with weather stripping that may often bind standard electric strikes. 1) Will an HES 7000 electric strike work on a door that binds or gets pushed by HVAC pressure?
That's exactly what the 7000 Series is built around. It's a preload-capable strike, so it releases smoothly when the door is under load from air conditioning pressure, weather changes, warped slabs, or compression from weatherstripping that would jam a standard strike. Two caveats worth knowing before you order: preload release works in fail secure mode only, and the strike is field selectable between fail safe and fail secure, so you have to leave it set to fail secure to keep that benefit. The other half of the solution is horizontal adjustment in the frame, which lets the installer move the strike opening to match where the latchbolt actually lands after the frame is set.
2) Does the HES 7000 strike work with a rim exit device, or only with a cylindrical lockset?
Both, and the faceplate you pick decides which. The 7000 Series takes cylindrical latchbolts up to 5/8 inch throw and rim exit pullman latches up to 3/4 inch throw. For cylindrical locks, order the 791 (4-7/8 x 1-1/4 inch) or the larger 792 (7-15/16 x 1-7/16 inch). 3) Will the HES 7000 replace a Von Duprin or Sargent rim exit strike I already have?
The rim faceplate options list compatible exit device brands outright. The 783S, 786S and 789S work with rim exit devices from American Device, Arrow, Doramatic, Monarch, Precision, Sargent, Von Duprin and Yale, with the 786S and 789S also covering Jackson. The limit is latch throw, not brand: the pullman latch has to be 3/4 inch or less. Match the jamb material too, since 783S is the metal jamb plate and 786S and 789S are the aluminum jamb plates.
4) Can an HES 7000 electric strike be used on a fire rated door?
No. The 7000 Series is not fire rated, so keep it off fire rated openings. It is UL 1034 burglary-resistant listed and UL 294 listed for access control use, which covers most non-rated exterior and interior security doors.
