Faceplate Options
The 8500 faceplate options kits combine two different faceplate pocket styles with three different deadlatch profiles for compatibility with a wide variety of mortise locksets. HES 8500 faceplate option kits are lock specific. HES 8500 630 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the HES 8500 electric strike work with my mortise lockset, and does it fit a deadbolt?
The 8500 is built for mortise locksets without a deadbolt, and it takes mortise latchbolts up to 3/4 inch throw. If the lock on your door has a deadbolt that projects into the frame, this is the wrong strike. 2) Can I put an electric strike in a fire rated frame without voiding the label?
That is exactly what the 8500 was built for. It complies with NFPA 80-07 guidelines for retrofit into fire-rated frames, is UL 10C fire rated for 3 hours in fail secure, and conforms to CAN4-S104 (ULC-S104), NFPA 252 and ASTM E152. Fail secure is the mode that carries the fire rating, so on a labeled opening set it fail secure, not fail safe.
3) Do I have to cut the frame to install the HES 8500?
No cutting of the face of the frame. Installation is remove the existing strike plate, remove the dust box, and put the 8500 in.
