Blackburn 50150BB-C – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size is the Blackburn 50150BB-C hex head bolt?
It's a 1/2 inch diameter bolt with a 1-1/2 inch length, hex head. That length gives you enough grip for a typical grounding connector or lug stack-up, but not much more, so if you're clamping thicker material or adding washers you'll want a longer bolt.
2) Why silicon bronze instead of a galvanized or stainless bolt for a grounding connection?
Silicon bronze is what this bolt is made from, and it's the standard choice on bronze and copper grounding hardware because the bolt and the connector body are close enough electrically to avoid the galvanic corrosion you get from mixing steel or zinc with copper. If you're bolting into a bronze ground clamp, cast bronze lug, or copper busbar, a bronze bolt is what belongs there.
3) Is the Blackburn 50150BB-C the right replacement bolt for a bronze ground clamp?
For a clamp that takes a 1/2 inch bolt and needs 1-1/2 inches of length, yes, and the bronze material matches the clamp body. Measure the old bolt first: diameter and length both have to match, because a shorter bolt won't engage the threads fully and a longer one bottoms out or leaves exposed thread in a burial location.
4) Can I use this bolt outdoors or in a direct-burial ground box?
Silicon bronze holds up well in wet and buried environments, which is why it's used on grounding hardware in ground rod boxes, water pipe clamps, and exterior bonding points. The 50150BB-C is bronze throughout, not a plated steel bolt, so there's no coating to wear off and start rusting.
5) Does this bolt come with a nut and washers?
The 50150BB-C is the bolt only, sold as a single piece. If your assembly needs a nut, flat washer, or lock washer, order those separately and keep them in silicon bronze to match the bolt and avoid mixing metals at the connection.
6) Is the Blackburn 50150BB-C sold individually or in a box?
Sold each. The selling unit is a single bolt, so order the exact count you need for the job rather than assuming a carton quantity.
