Metallics NHSD22E – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a 22 inch twist bit reach through a stud bay or top plate for an electrical rough-in?
The NHSD22E is a 22 inch long bit, which is the length electricians reach for when they need to drill from one side of a wall cavity, through doubled top plates, or at an angle where a short jobber-length bit won't clear the drill body. The other dimension listed with it is 3-1/8 inches.
2) Is the Metallics NHSD22E drill bit sold individually or in a multi-pack?
One bit per order. The NHSD22E high-speed twist drill bit ships as a single piece in a pouch, so if you're outfitting a crew you'll need one order line per installer.
3) What is the black oxide finish on the NHSD22E twist bit for?
Black oxide is the surface treatment on this high-speed steel twist bit. It cuts friction and galling while drilling and helps resist rust on a bit that lives in a pouch in a van, which matters on a long bit used intermittently for wood boring and wire pulls.
