Depth of cut is 1-7/8 inches, so anything up to that thickness goes in a single plunge. Thicker stock means cutting from both sides or breaking the slug out partway and going again.

It shouldn't, and that is the point of the 4/6 variable pitch tooth geometry. Mixing tooth spacing breaks up the harmonic that makes an even-pitch saw walk and chatter, and the fleem ground teeth give a shearing entry instead of a scraping one. Start at low RPM with steady pressure and let the pilot seat first.
6) Is the back plate strong enough for repeated cuts in electrical panels?
The cup uses a rigid solid steel back plate rather than a stamped or vented one, which is what resists deflection when the saw loads up in sheet steel. The cats eye slug openings on the 2 inch and larger sizes are cut into that same solid plate.
