Sta-Kon RB1153M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RB1153M fork terminal take?
The RB1153M is sized for 18 to 14 AWG stranded or solid conductor. The blue insulation is the standard color code for that range, so on a panel where you also have red (22-16) and yellow (12-10) terminals, blue tells the next electrician the barrel is 18-14 without reaching for a chart. Anything outside 18-14 needs a different barrel size, not this one.
2) Will this fork terminal fit a No. 10 screw terminal?
Yes. The RB1153M is a No. 10 stud fork, so the slot opening is cut for a #10 screw or stud. It will also slip over a smaller #8 or #6 screw, but the tongue will be oversized and the screw head may not fully capture it, so for those use a terminal sized to the stud. On a #10 breaker lug or terminal block it drops straight on without removing the screw.
3) Should I use a fork terminal or a ring terminal on control panel wiring?
A fork (spade) terminal like the RB1153M slides in under a screw you only have to loosen, which is why it is used on terminal blocks, relay bases, and control panels where wires get changed out. A ring terminal is captive and cannot pull out if the screw backs off, so it is the choice for vibration-prone equipment, motors, and anything a code inspector wants mechanically captured. Same crimp barrel, different tongue.
4) Do I need a special crimper for Sta-Kon nylon insulated terminals?
Use an insulated-terminal crimp tool matched to the 18-14 AWG (blue) nest. An uninsulated-terminal die or pliers will crush the nylon sleeve and give you a crimp that does not hold pull-out. The barrel is color coded blue to line up with the blue die station on a standard insulated crimper.
5) What is the difference between a nylon insulated terminal and a vinyl one?
The RB1153M uses a nylon insulating sleeve. Nylon takes a higher temperature and resists abrasion and solvents better than vinyl, and it does not split as readily when the crimp flares the barrel, which is why nylon versions are specified for machine and panel work where the harness gets handled. Vinyl is the lower-cost general purpose option.
6) What part number do I order for this Sta-Kon blue fork terminal, and where is it made?
Order it as Sta-Kon RB1153M. It is manufactured in the United States, which matters if you are filling a government or institutional order with domestic-sourcing language on the PO.
