Sta-Kon RC2237 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RC2237 fork terminal crimp onto?
The RC2237 locking fork terminal takes 12 to 10 AWG conductors. The yellow vinyl insulation is the standard color code for that gauge range, so on a panel build you can confirm the right barrel at a glance without pulling the crimp back out.
2) What stud or screw size does the Sta-Kon RC2237 fit?
It is sized for a 1/4 inch bolt or stud. The fork (spade) tongue slides around a 1/4 inch terminal screw without fully removing it, which is why fork terminals get used on terminal blocks, motor starters and distribution blocks where backing the screw all the way out is a nuisance.
3) Is the Sta-Kon RC2237 rated for 480 volt control and power wiring?
Yes. It carries a 600 V rating, which covers 120/208, 277/480 and 600 V systems in commercial panels and control cabinets.
4) What makes a locking fork terminal different from a plain spade terminal?
A locking fork has upturned tangs at the tips of the tongue. Once the 1/4 inch screw is torqued down, those tangs bite under the screw head so the terminal cannot vibrate its way off the stud the way an open spade can. On equipment that shakes (motors, compressors, rolling stock), that is the reason to pick this style over a standard fork. A ring terminal is still more secure, but it requires removing the screw completely.
5) Is the Sta-Kon RC2237 fork terminal UL recognized?
The terminal is listed under UL file E9809. Pair it with the matching Sta-Kon crimp tool and die for that gauge range, since the UL file covers the terminal applied with the manufacturer's tooling, not with a generic plier crimper.
6) Is the barrel on this Sta-Kon terminal copper or aluminum?
Copper. It is intended for copper conductors, so do not use it to terminate aluminum building wire, which needs an AL/CU rated connector and an oxide inhibitor.
7) I need a 12-10 AWG lug for a #10 screw instead of 1/4 inch. Will this work?
No. The RC2237 tongue is cut for a 1/4 inch stud, so on a #10 screw the fork is too wide and the locking tangs will not seat under the head. Stay in the same Sta-Kon yellow 12-10 AWG family and order the fork sized for the smaller stud instead.
8) Is the Sta-Kon RC2237 made in the USA?
Country of origin is the United States, which matters on federal, military and Buy American funded jobs where domestic sourcing has to be documented for the submittal.
