Sta-Kon RB877M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RB877M ring terminal accept?
The RB877M is built for 18-14 AWG conductors. The blue insulation is the standard color code for that range, so on a panel where crimps are color-sorted it reads as the 16 AWG-class barrel at a glance. Smaller than 18 AWG or larger than 14 AWG needs a different terminal.
2) What stud or screw size does the RB877M ring fit?
The ring is sized for a No. 10 stud or screw. It will not seat on a 1/4-20 stud, and on a smaller No. 6 or No. 8 screw the tongue will float unless you add a washer.
3) Is this ring terminal rated for 600 volt control and panel wiring?
Yes. The Sta-Kon RB877M carries a 600 V rating and is UL recognized under file E9809, which is what an inspector looks for on panelboard and control wiring terminations.
4) Should I use a ring terminal or a spade terminal on a panelboard terminal screw?
A ring tongue like the RB877M has to be slipped over the stud, so it takes longer to install, but it cannot vibrate off a loosened screw the way a fork or spade can. On panelboard, wiring harness, telecom, and automotive terminations where vibration or safety matters, the ring is the right call; use a spade only where you need to drop the wire in without removing the screw.
5) What is the barrel made of, and does it work on aluminum wire?
The barrel is copper, so it is intended for copper conductors. Crimping copper-only terminals onto aluminum wire is not an approved termination; aluminum needs an AL9CU-rated connector instead.
6) What does the Mylar insulation on the RB877M do that plain vinyl does not?
It is a vinyl insulated ring terminal with a Mylar liner inside the sleeve. The liner reinforces the insulation at the crimp so the sleeve resists splitting and gives better dielectric integrity at the 600 V rating, which is why these get specified in harness and telecom work over bare vinyl.
7) Are Sta-Kon RB877M terminals made in the USA for government and institutional specs?
Country of origin is the United States, which is what procurement needs when a contract carries a domestic-sourcing clause. The part number to cite on the submittal is RB877M.
