That is exactly what the MB1F, MB2F and MB3F brackets are for. A stop-mounted strike or closer shoe cannot be screwed straight through a coordinator without damaging it, so the bracket spans the coordinator and gives the hardware its own mounting surface. The stop-mounted hardware then gets lowered to compensate for the combined height of the coordinator and the bracket. Steel construction, and the brackets carry ANSI A156.3 Type 21A and are UL Listed for fire door assemblies.
2) What is the difference between the MB1V and the MB1F bracket, and which one do I order?
The V is the Von Duprin 8827-F version. If the strike you are mounting belongs to a Von Duprin 8827-F surface vertical rod device, order the V bracket (MB1V, MB2V or MB3V). For any other stop-mounted hardware, order the standard F bracket. Same three finishes either way.
