Kaba Ilco BR Series Glass Door Bottom Rail Lock

The BR Series is a deadbolt lock body that mortises into the bottom rail of an all-glass door, or into the patch fitting at the bottom of the glass. It is not a lock you fit into a door edge with a lever or trim, and it isn't for a hollow metal or wood opening. The bolt is thrown and retracted by a mortise cylinder, so the door is locked with a key rather than a thumbturn or handle. This is the lock you use when a frameless glass entrance has to lock down into the floor.

The Kaba Ilco BR Series bottom rail lock is built to be installed in the bottom rail or patch fitting of an all-glass door, with the bolt retracted by a 1-5/32 inch mortise cylinder using a standard cam. On a conventional framed door prepped for a standard mortise pocket, the Sargent 4874 is a mortise deadbolt with a 2-3/4 inch backset and a double cylinder function, so it is keyed from both sides rather than driven from a rail-mounted body.

The BR Series is sold as the lock body. The mortise cylinder that operates the bolt is a separate order, and it has to be 1-5/32 inch with a standard cam. Budget for the floor strike or threshold keeper as well, since the bolt drops down into the floor on an all-glass opening. If you are keying a whole storefront, order the cylinders to your existing keyway at the same time.

The BR Series is mechanical, key-operated through a mortise cylinder, with no electronic option. If you need code or credential entry on the opening, that is a different product family: Dormakaba's E-Plex 2066 pushbutton mortise lock is built for wide stile doors, and the Alarm Lock DL1300NW Trilogy Networx wireless mortise lock is made to work with Adams Rite deadlatches on storefront-type doors.

Ordering a thumbturn when the rail needs a lock body leaves the opening with no bolt.

The Kaba Ilco BR Series is a bottom rail lock for all-glass doors and is operated by a mortise cylinder only. Classroom function on a framed 1-3/4 inch door is covered by the Corbin Russwin ML2003, a Grade 1 mortise classroom lockset in the ML2000 Series, or the Cal-Royal NM8070 heavy duty Grade 1 classroom mortise lockset with auxiliary deadlatch. Both carry lever trim and a classroom function the rail lock does not offer.

The Alarm Lock DL1300NW Trilogy Networx wireless electronic mortise lock with keypad is built for Adams Rite deadlatches, which is the storefront style narrow stile prep. The Kaba Ilco BR Series takes a different approach to a glass opening: it mounts in the bottom rail or patch fitting and is retracted by a 1-5/32 inch mortise cylinder. One puts credentials on the stile, the other puts a keyed bolt in the rail.
