Kaba Ilco 7247-SC-1-26D-KD – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I key an Ilco mortise cylinder to my existing Schlage C keys?
Yes. These are cut to the Schlage C "SC" keyway and are rekeyable to the original manufacturer's system, so a locksmith can pin them to your existing SC master or change key and they run on the keys already in your tenants' hands. They ship with Ilco Look Alike keys.
2) What is the difference between the 5 pin drilled 6 and the 6 pin Ilco mortise cylinders?
Same body length, different pinning. At each length Ilco pairs them up: 7265 is 1-5/8 inch 5 pin drilled 6, 7266 is the 1-5/8 inch 6 pin; likewise 7285/7286 at 1-3/4 inch, 7305/7306 at 1-7/8 inch, and 7325/7326 at 2 inch. A drilled-6 cylinder is pinned as a 5 pin but the plug is bored for six chambers, so a locksmith can convert it later. Order the 6 pin if your existing SC system is six-pin; order 5 pin drilled 6 if you are on five-pin keys and want headroom. The 7247 at 1-1/2 inch is the 7 pin.
3) I need a mortise cylinder for an Adams Rite storefront lock - do I order the Ilco with the Adams Rite cam or the Adams Rite 4036?
Both routes exist. The Ilco brass mortise cylinders are offered with an Adam's Rite cam as well as a standard cam, so the Adams Rite cam version drops into an Adams Rite storefront case while keeping the Schlage C keyway. The Adams Rite 4036 is a five-pin mortise cylinder rated Grade 1 with a 1/2 inch minimum door thickness. If the building is keyed on SC and you want the cylinder to key into that system, the Ilco with the Adam's Rite cam is the one that matches the keyway.
4) Can I use a Schlage 20-021 rim cylinder in place of a mortise cylinder?
No. The Schlage 20-021 is a 6-pin rim cylinder with a vertical tailpiece cam, and the 20-022 is the same rim cylinder with a horizontal tailpiece cam. A rim cylinder mounts through the door and drives an exit device or rim lock with a tailpiece; the Ilco brass cylinders are mortise cylinders that thread into a mortise case and drive it with a cam. They are not interchangeable prep. If the device on the door is a rim exit device, the rim cylinders are the correct part; if it is a mortise case, the mortise cylinder is.
5) What is the equivalent of an Ilco mortise cylinder in Schlage C keyway from another brand?
The Detex MC65 is a mortise cylinder in the Schlage C keyway, 1-1/8 inch, 6-pin, and is the closest direct counterpart to the Ilco brass mortise cylinders in SC keyway. The difference is range: the Ilco mortise cylinders run 1-1/2 inch through 2 inch in 5, 6 and 7 pin configurations, so if the mortise case calls for a 1-3/4 inch or 2 inch cylinder the Ilco sizes cover it, while the MC65 is the single 1-1/8 inch length.
6) What should I use instead if the facility is on a small-format interchangeable core system?
An interchangeable core system needs a housing that accepts a core, not a fixed-pinned cylinder. The BEST 1CB is a 150 series interchangeable core cylinder, the BEST 1C5 is a standard 5-pin core, and the BEST 1CDF is a drill-resistant patented interchangeable core in 7-pin brass. The Ilco brass mortise cylinders are conventional pinned cylinders in the Schlage C keyway, rekeyable to the original manufacturer's system, which suits a building keyed on SC rather than one where maintenance swaps cores by hand.
7) I have Schlage L9000 mortise locks and an interchangeable core program - is the Ilco SC cylinder the right part?
For an L9000 mortise lock on a large-format interchangeable core program, the Corbin Russwin 1080 is the match: a Grade 1 series 1-1/2 inch LFIC mortise cylinder, 6-pin, for Schlage L9000 mortise locks with an A01 Schlage L cam. The Ilco brass mortise cylinders are conventional pinned cylinders in the Schlage C keyway with standard or Adam's Rite cams, so they suit an L9000 opening only where the building is not running interchangeable cores.
8) Can I order Ilco mortise cylinders keyed alike across a building?
Keyed alike and keyed different are both order options, so a property manager standardizing a set of doors can run one key across them, or specify keyed different where each unit needs its own. Match the finish and the model number across the order so the cylinders look and measure the same on every opening.
9) What else could I use instead of an Ilco mortise cylinder with a Schlage C keyway?
For a straight swap in the SC keyway, the Detex MC65 is a 1-1/8 inch 6-pin mortise cylinder in Schlage C. If you need a Grade 1 mortise cylinder, the Adams Rite 4036 is Grade 1 five-pin with a 1/2 inch minimum door thickness, and Corbin Russwin's 1000 Series is Grade 1 in a 1-1/2 inch length with an A02 straight cam. If your facility runs interchangeable core, none of those apply and you want a small format core such as the BEST 1C 5-pin or the Schlage 20-057-C full size interchangeable core in C keyway.
10) Will an Ilco mortise cylinder take an interchangeable core?
No. These are conventional pin tumbler mortise cylinders in the Schlage C keyway, rekeyable by repinning the plug. If your facility is standardized on interchangeable core so a maintenance tech can pull and swap a core without disassembling the lock, you need an IC product instead, such as the BEST 1CB 150 Series interchangeable core or the Corbin Russwin 1080 large format IC mortise cylinder.
11) What is the difference between the Ilco mortise cylinder and the Corbin Russwin 1000 mortise cylinder?
The Corbin Russwin 1000 is a Grade 1 mortise cylinder in 1-1/2 inch length furnished with an A02 straight cam, and the Corbin Russwin 1070 is a 1-1/4 inch 6-pin mortise housing with an A01 cloverleaf cam. Those are fixed cam and length combinations. The Ilco brass mortise cylinders instead run 1-1/2 inch through 2 inch in 5, 6 and 7 pin and are ordered with either a standard or an Adam's Rite cam, in the Schlage C keyway.
12) Is the Schlage 20-057-C the same thing as an Ilco mortise cylinder in C keyway?
They share the C keyway but are different parts. The Schlage 20-057-C is a full size interchangeable core cylinder in C keyway, finished 643E aged bronze, and the 20-057 is a 6-pin FSIC rim cylinder with a convertible tailpiece cam. Those go into openings prepped for a full size interchangeable core. The Ilco brass cylinders are fixed mortise cylinders in the Schlage C keyway, offered in fourteen finishes including satin chrome, oil rubbed bronze and satin nickel, and ordered keyed alike or keyed different.
13) The storefront door has a cylinder pull, not a mortise case - what do I order?
A cylinder pull is a different part than a mortise cylinder. The Adams Rite 4024 is a cylinder pull with trim plate mounting for MS1847 deadlock systems, the 4025 is a five pin tumbler cylinder pull with through-screws for the same MS1847 deadlock, and the 4026 is a five pin tumbler cylinder pull for wood door applications with the Adams Rite 5017 wood door deadlock. The Ilco mortise cylinders thread into the mortise case itself and are the part to order when the door already has the pull or trim and only the cylinder is being replaced.
14) Will an Ilco mortise cylinder replace the cylinder in a residential handleset or deadbolt?
Those openings take rim type cylinders, not mortise cylinders. The Medeco 1075127 is a 5-pin rim type lazy motion single cylinder for handlesets and deadbolts, the 1012040 is a 6-pin lazy motion rim cylinder for Kwikset single cylinder deadbolts, and the 1065244 is a 5-pin rim lazy motion cylinder with an Emtek tailpiece. The Ilco brass cylinders are commercial mortise cylinders and belong in a mortise case.
15) The lock is a key in lever, not a mortise lock - is this the wrong cylinder?
Yes, a key in lever lock takes a lever cylinder. The Falcon A23161-05 G is a key in lever cylinder for the RU/T series with a 6-pin G keyway, keyed different, supplied with 2 cut keys. The Ilco brass cylinders are mortise cylinders driven by a cam in a mortise case, so they will not fit a key in lever chassis regardless of keyway.
16) What finishes do Ilco mortise cylinders come in to match my existing door hardware?
Fourteen finishes cover most existing trim: Bright Brass, Bright Brass Permanent, Satin Brass, Antique Brass, Satin Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Satin Nickel, Bright Chrome, Satin Chrome, Bright Stainless Steel, Satin Stainless Steel, Clear Aluminum Anodized, Black Aluminum, and Duracolor Brown Aluminum. The aluminum and Duracolor finishes are the ones that blend into anodized storefront frames; the brass and bronze finishes match interior mortise lock trim.
17) Is the Ilco mortise cylinder suitable for commercial doors or just residential?
Built for commercial door hardware, and sold as a replacement part rather than a complete lock, so it is what you order when the lock case is fine and the cylinder is worn, compromised, or needs to move onto a different key system.
18) I only need a plug to fill the hole with no key function - is there a cheaper option than a keyed mortise cylinder?
For a non-functioning opening, the BEST 12E series dummy rim cylinder with a 1-5/32 inch diameter fills a rim prep without key function. The Ilco brass mortise cylinders are keyed cylinders furnished with Ilco Look Alike keys and ordered keyed alike or keyed different, so they are the choice only where the opening actually needs to operate by key.
19) Can I swap an Emtek CY4 cylinder into a commercial mortise lock?
The Emtek CY4 is a cylinder sold as a single piece for Emtek hardware, and the Medeco 1065140 is a 5-pin retrofit cylinder for the Arrow JL interconnected lock and Emtek handleset and deadbolt outside cylinder. Those serve Emtek trim. The Ilco brass cylinders are commercial mortise cylinders in the Schlage C keyway with standard or Adam's Rite cams, intended for a mortise case.
