Kawneer KW037291-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW037291-40 paddle work with an MS 1893 latchlock?
That is exactly what it is built for. The KW037291-40 is a Kawneer paddle device push made for the MS 1893 Latchlock, so it drops back into the original assembly without adapting anything. It is a genuine Kawneer service part, not an aftermarket copy.
2) Is the KW037291-40 paddle right hand or left hand?
Right hand. The KW037291-40 comes factory configured for right-handed openings, so it is not reversible in the field. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, this is the one you want. A left-hand opening needs the left-hand version of the paddle instead.
3) Do I get the whole latchlock, or just the paddle, when I order KW037291-40?
Just the paddle push. The KW037291-40 is a replacement service component for the MS 1893 Latchlock assembly, not the lock itself. If the latch mechanism, cylinder or strike is also worn, those are ordered separately as their own Kawneer service parts.
4) What finish is the Kawneer KW037291-40 paddle?
Dark bronze, which is the finish Kawneer runs across its storefront and entrance hardware. If the rest of the door pulls, rails and lock trim on the opening are dark bronze, this paddle matches. On a clear anodized or black opening it will stand out, so order the paddle in the matching finish instead.
5) Our building has a fleet of Kawneer doors with paddle exit hardware. Can I stock this as a standard repair part?
Yes, for any right-hand opening running an MS 1893 Latchlock in dark bronze. Paddle pushes are the piece that takes the abuse on a high-traffic entrance, so keeping a couple on the shelf makes sense. Just note the handing is fixed, so a mixed-handed fleet needs both the right-hand KW037291-40 and its left-hand counterpart.
6) Is this paddle a commercial part or will it work on a residential door?
It is a commercial part. The KW037291-40 is built to Kawneer's commercial standards for high-use aluminum entrance doors, the kind found in offices, schools, healthcare buildings, retail, government facilities and multi-tenant residential lobbies. It is not intended for a residential entry door.
