Kawneer KW037674-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Kawneer KW037674-29 drop plate do on a Norton 8100 closer install?
A drop plate lowers the closer body below the frame face so the arm sits at the correct height when there isn't enough flat frame surface to mount the closer directly. The KW037674-29 is the Kawneer plate for the Norton 8100 Series closer, and it provides the mounting offset that keeps the arm positioned correctly for smooth operation.
2) Do I get the door closer with this, or just the plate?
Just the plate. The KW037674-29 is a replacement drop plate only, listed as a replacement part, so the Norton 8100 closer body, arm, and any screws or shoe you need for the install have to be ordered separately.
3) What finish is the KW037674-29 drop plate, and will it match my existing hardware?
It comes in a factory-applied Black finish, Kawneer finish code 29. That matches dark bronze/black anodized storefront framing and black-finish closers; against aluminum or clear anodized hardware it will read as a contrast.
4) Is this a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket plate?
It's a genuine Kawneer service part, supplied through Kawneer's service parts program, so the hole pattern and offset match the original factory installation on Kawneer openings. That matters if you're maintaining a building standardized on Kawneer aluminum entrances and don't want to re-drill the frame.
5) Is the KW037674-29 drop plate rated for commercial door traffic?
Yes, it's a commercial-duty part, intended for commercial door hardware rather than residential. It's used in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, industrial and warehouse buildings, multi-tenant residential, and government facilities.
6) Are there different sizes or finish options for this Kawneer drop plate?
No options to specify. The KW037674-29 is sold as a single configuration in Black, so the part number is the whole order.
