Kawneer KW037863 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door widths does the Kawneer KW037863 threshold come in?
The KW037863 threshold is offered for two door sizes, 42 inch and 48 inch. Pick the one that matches the door leaf it sits under, since the threshold is cut for a specific opening rather than field-trimmed to size.
2) Will the Kawneer KW037863 threshold work on a left-hand door?
No. The KW037863 is a right-handed threshold, factory-specified so it aligns and operates correctly in the frame without field modification. A left-hand opening needs the left-hand version of the part, not this one. Stand outside the door, and if the hinges are on your right for an outswing leaf, this is the handing you want.
3) I have a Kawneer entrance with a concealed overhead closer. Is this the right threshold?
No. This threshold profile is specified for openings with a SURFACE closer. The hardware configuration is part of how Kawneer defines the threshold, so an opening with a different closer arrangement or different locking hardware takes a different service part number.
4) Is the KW037863 an actual Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, made to Kawneer's original specifications for the door system. For a property manager or facilities crew keeping an aluminum storefront entrance matched to its original install, that matters: the profile drops into the existing frame condition without reworking the sill.
5) What do I need to know before ordering the Kawneer KW037863 threshold?
Three things settle the order: the door width (42 inch or 48 inch), the handing (this part is right-hand only), and the hardware on the opening, which must be an outswing single door with a surface closer and standard locking. Get any one of those wrong and the threshold will not sit correctly under the leaf.
6) Is this threshold rated for high-traffic commercial entrances?
Yes. The KW037863 is a commercial-grade part, intended for high-use door assemblies such as office building entrances, schools, healthcare entryways, retail storefronts, municipal buildings and multi-tenant common area doors. It is not a residential item.
