Kawneer KW047222-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW047222-40 lever handle work with an MS1893 latchlock?
That is exactly what it is for. The KW047222-40 is a genuine Kawneer service part made as a direct-fit lever handle for the MS1893 Latchlock, so it goes back on without modifying the lock body or the door prep.
2) What door thickness does the KW047222-40 Kawneer lever handle fit?
It is built for 1-3/4 inch doors, which is the standard commercial storefront and entrance thickness. If the leaf you are working on is thinner or thicker, the spindle length on this handle will not land correctly in the MS1893 lock, so you need the version matched to that thickness instead.
3) Is the KW047222-40 a complete latchlock or just the handle?
Handle only. The KW047222-40 is a replacement lever for an MS1893 Latchlock that is already installed. If the lock case itself is worn or the latch is failing, you need the MS1893 latchlock assembly, not this service part.
4) What finish does the Kawneer KW047222-40 come in?
Dark Bronze, applied at the factory. If the other openings in the building already run Kawneer Dark Bronze framing and hardware, this handle matches that run rather than standing out as a repair part.
5) Is the Kawneer lever handle metal or plastic?
The lever is Delrin, an acetal engineering plastic. It handles repeated commercial cycling and will not gall against the lock spindle the way a cast handle can, and it does not conduct heat or cold the way a metal lever on an exterior aluminum door does.
6) Is this Kawneer handle suitable for a high traffic commercial entrance?
It is a commercial-rated part, intended for office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government buildings. For a property manager standardizing entrance hardware across a portfolio of Kawneer doors, it is the OEM service lever rather than an aftermarket substitute.
