Kawneer KW047825-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW047825-17 mortise cylinder fit the AR 4073 lock?
Yes. The KW047825-17 is specified for the Kawneer AR 4073 lock, and it carries the .85 cam that lock requires. Cam length is what decides whether a mortise cylinder actually throws the lock mechanism, so pairing this cylinder with the AR 4073 is a drop-in replacement with no modification.
2) What does keyed alike in a group of 50 mean for this Kawneer cylinder?
All 50 cylinders in the group operate on one key. Order the group and every door you install them on opens with the same key, which is how facility teams handle a run of storefront entries without issuing 50 different keys. If you need separate keys per opening, or a master key system with individual change keys, a keyed-alike group is not the right configuration.
3) Is a .85 cam mortise cylinder interchangeable with a standard cam cylinder?
No. Mortise cylinders share the same threaded body format but the cam is the interface to the lock, and a .85 cam is a specific length. Fit a cylinder with the wrong cam and the key will turn without retracting the latch or deadbolt. The KW047825-17 is built with the .85 cam because that is what the AR 4073 lock takes.
4) Is the KW047825-17 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket cylinder?
It is a Kawneer service part, listed under Kawneer Service Parts, so the dimensions and cam geometry match what the AR 4073 lock was built around. That matters on aluminum entrances where an off-brand cylinder with a slightly different cam or body length can bind in the lock case.
5) I only need to rekey a few doors, can I buy fewer than 50 of these cylinders?
The KW047825-17 is configured and supplied keyed alike as a group of 50, so it is set up for a large standardization program rather than a one or two door repair. For a single opening you would want an individually keyed mortise cylinder with a .85 cam for the AR 4073 rather than this group configuration.
6) What kind of Kawneer hardware does this mortise cylinder go into?
It is a replacement cylinder for Kawneer lock and exit device hardware, specified for the AR 4073 lock. Standard mortise cylinder format means it threads into the compatible Kawneer lock assembly and is swapped out without touching the rest of the device.
7) Will the Clear Aluminum finish match my existing Kawneer storefront doors?
Clear Aluminum is the standard anodized look used across commercial aluminum door and storefront framing, so the cylinder face reads consistent with typical Kawneer entrances. If your doors were specified in a dark bronze or black anodize, the cylinder face will not match visually even though it functions identically.
8) Is this Kawneer cylinder suitable for residential doors?
It is a commercial part. The KW047825-17 is classified for commercial use and is intended for aluminum storefront and exit device hardware, not residential entry locks. For a house door you would be looking at a standard residential deadbolt or knob cylinder instead.
