Kawneer KW048290 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Kawneer KW048290 dress cap clip used for?
The KW048290 is a dress cap clip, a small retaining clip that holds the dress cap (the cover trim) on a Kawneer exit device assembly. It is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part for use with Kawneer Part 038353, so it is what you order when the cap on an existing Kawneer device is loose or the original clip is broken or missing. It is a component part, not a complete exit device or cap.
2) Will the Kawneer KW048290 clip fit any exit device, or only Kawneer?
Only Kawneer. The KW048290 is built to Kawneer's own service part specification for use with Kawneer Part 038353, so it fits that Kawneer dress cap assembly and nothing else. If your device is a Von Duprin, Precision, Adams Rite or another brand, this clip will not be the right part. Identify the device by its Kawneer part number before ordering.
3) I manage a building with Kawneer storefront doors. Do I need the whole exit device to fix a loose dress cap?
No. If the cap itself is intact and only the clip that retains it has failed, the KW048290 clip is the piece to order. It is sold as an individual replacement part within Kawneer's service parts program, so you replace the clip rather than the cap assembly or the device. If the cap or end trim itself is damaged, you will need Kawneer Part 038353 as well.
4) Is the KW048290 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine. The KW048290 comes through Kawneer's own service parts program and is made to original equipment specification, which matters on aluminum door hardware where an aftermarket clip that is slightly off will not seat and will rattle loose again.
5) Is the Kawneer KW048290 a commercial-duty part or a residential one?
It is a commercial part. Kawneer exit device hardware of this kind is used on aluminum storefront and entrance doors in offices, schools, healthcare buildings, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government facilities, and the KW048290 clip is the service component for that hardware.
6) How do I order the right Kawneer dress cap clip?
Order by model number KW048290 and confirm your device uses Kawneer Part 038353. There are no finish, handing or size options to specify on this clip, it is supplied as a single configuration.
