Kawneer KW050324-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Kawneer KW050324-17 bottom pivot include the door-side part, or just the frame piece?
Only the frame-side piece. The KW050324-17 is the frame portion of a bottom pivot assembly, so if the door leaf's pivot half is also worn you need to source that separately. It's sold this way so you can swap just the failed half without pulling the whole assembly apart.
2) Is the KW050324-17 pivot right hand or left hand?
Right hand only. The KW050324-17 comes factory-configured for right-handed openings, so it cannot be flipped for a left-hand door. Stand outside the opening and check which side the hinge stile is on before you order, and get the matching left-hand part number for the opposite leaf on a pair.
3) Will this Kawneer bottom pivot work with a threshold, or do I need the no-threshold version?
It's built for a threshold installation. The KW050324-17 frame portion is engineered to sit with a threshold so pivot alignment and load transfer at the base of the frame are correct. Openings without a threshold, where the pivot lands in the floor or a floor closer, take a different frame portion.
4) I manage a storefront with Kawneer entrances. Will an aftermarket pivot fit, or do I need the genuine Kawneer part?
Use the genuine part. The KW050324-17 is a Kawneer service replacement, which keeps the pivot geometry and the threshold interface matched to the existing Kawneer door and framing. Aluminum entrance pivots are system-specific, so a generic pivot rarely lands in the same prep.
5) What finish is the Kawneer KW050324-17, and will it match my existing aluminum storefront?
Clear aluminum, which is the standard mill/clear anodized look used on most commercial aluminum door and storefront framing. It blends with clear-finish entrances; if your frames are dark bronze or black anodized, the pivot will read lighter, though at the base of the frame under a threshold it's largely out of sight.
6) Is this pivot rated for high-traffic commercial entrances or is it a light-duty part?
It's a commercial part, not residential. Kawneer builds the KW050324-17 for commercial door service, and it's typically replaced on office building entrances, retail storefronts, school and healthcare entries, municipal buildings, and multi-tenant properties where the door cycles all day.
