Kawneer KW911686-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW911686-40 pull package fit any Kawneer sliding door, or only the 990 Series?
Only the 990 Sliding Door, and specifically the XO and OXO configurations. The KW911686-40 is an OEM Kawneer service part engineered for that system, so it drops in without modification there. If your opening is a different Kawneer sliding or swing door series, this pull package is not the part to order.
2) What comes in the KW911686-40 pull package, or do I have to order the cylinder separately?
The cylinder is included. The package ships with the extruded pull, the slide operator, the thumbturn and the cylinder, so all the core operating and locking components come together in one part number. You are not sourcing a separate cylinder or thumbturn to complete the job.
3) What finish does the Kawneer KW911686-40 come in?
Dark Bronze, factory applied, and it is the only finish this pull package is built in. It is matched to Kawneer 990 Series framing and hardware, so if the rest of your storefront run is Dark Bronze it will read consistently across the openings. A clear anodized or black opening will not match.
4) Does the KW911686-40 give me keyed locking from outside and a thumbturn inside?
Yes. The package carries a keyed cylinder for exterior access and an interior thumbturn, so a tenant can throw the lock from inside without a key while staff key it from outside. That covers normal commercial access control on a 990 sliding entrance.
5) I manage a building with several Kawneer 990 sliding doors. Can I standardize on this part for repairs?
If those doors are XO or OXO configurations in Dark Bronze, yes. The KW911686-40 is the genuine Kawneer service part for that configuration and restores the door to its original operating spec, so stocking it as an MRO repair item makes sense across a fleet of matching 990 openings. Confirm each opening is XO or OXO before you standardize, since other configurations take different hardware.
6) Is this pull package rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. The KW911686-40 is classified for commercial use and built with extruded profiles to Kawneer's architectural hardware standards, which is what puts it in office, retail, healthcare, education and municipal sliding entrances rather than a residential patio door.
7) What does XO and OXO mean when ordering Kawneer 990 sliding door hardware?
Those codes describe the door configuration: O is a fixed panel, X is the sliding panel. XO is one slider beside one fixed lite; OXO is a center slider with a fixed panel on each side. The KW911686-40 pull package with slide operator is built for both of those layouts on the 990 system.
