1) What is the Keedex K-BXES-EN400 box used for?
It's a weld-in steel box that houses a Trine EN400 Series electric strike, so the strike can be mounted in a gate frame or hollow metal frame that has no cavity prepped for it. The box provides the pocket and the mounting surface; the strike itself is a separate part. Built from 14 gauge steel for commercial openings.
2) Will the Keedex K-BXES-EN400 fit a strike other than the Trine EN400?
The box is cut for the Trine EN400 Series and nothing else. If your strike is a different model or a different brand, the cutout and depth won't line up. 3) How much room do I need in the gate or frame for the K-BXES-EN400 strike box?
Plan for a pocket of 2-3/8 inches wide by 5-1/8 inches high by 1-3/4 inches deep. That 1-3/4 inch depth is the number that kills most installs, tube steel gate frames and some narrow hollow metal profiles don't have it. Measure the inside of the frame member before you cut.
4) Does the Keedex K-BXES-EN400 come with the electric strike?
No. You're buying the steel housing only. Order the Trine EN400 Series strike separately, along with the wire and power supply for it, the box carries no electrical components of its own.

6) Do I need a strike box at all, or can I mount an electric strike straight into the frame?
If the frame is already prepped with a proper strike cavity and enough depth behind it, you don't need a box. You need one when there's no cavity to work with, typically a welded steel gate, a picket or tube frame, or a frame where the existing prep is the wrong size. The box gives the strike a finished pocket and a face to sit against, and it welds in. For a Trine EN400 installation in that situation, the K-BXES-EN400 is the matching housing.
7) Can I paint or powder coat the Keedex EN400 strike box to match my gate?
Yes, it ships as bare 14 gauge steel with no applied finish, which is normal for a weld-in box since welding would burn off a factory coating anyway. Finish it after it's welded in, along with the rest of the frame.
