Yes. The thumb stud is reversible, so it can be set up for either hand and deployed one-handed while your other hand is on a wire or a panel cover. The lockback mechanism holds the blade open until you release it deliberately.
2) Will an aluminum-handled knife hold up in a damp or outdoor maintenance environment?
The handle is anodized aluminum and the blade carries a black chrome coating over AUS 8 stainless, so both surfaces resist corrosion in wet and dirty conditions. AUS 8 is a stainless grade, not carbon tool steel, so it won't rust out from routine moisture. The Klein lockback is a sharpened stainless drop point you resharpen, good for cable jacket, tape, cartons, strapping and general field cutting, and it folds to 3.5 inches to ride in a pocket or on a belt. If you're scoring drywall, cutting shingles or chewing through abrasive material all day, a utility knife with disposable trapezoid blades is the better call because you swap an edge instead of stopping to sharpen. Plenty of tradesmen carry both.
4) Is a drop point blade the right shape for cutting cable jacket and stripping wire?
A drop point has a strong tip with a curved belly, which gives you control for slitting cable jacket and enough edge length for slicing tape, shrink wrap and cartons. It is not a sheepsfoot, so the point is more exposed near conductors, and it is not a substitute for a dedicated cable splicer's knife or a stripping tool if you're stripping large-gauge conductors regularly.
5) Does the Klein 44001 knife come with a pocket clip, and can it be removed?
