Kraloy 078901 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use this Kraloy weatherproof cover outdoors in a wet location?
It is a weatherproof PVC cover intended for exterior duplex receptacles, shielding them from rain, moisture, dust, and airborne debris on patios, decks, porches, garages, and other exposed outlets. Note that it is a flip-style weatherproof cover for protecting the receptacle, not an in-use (extra duty) cover that keeps a plugged-in cord protected while the lid is closed. If your jurisdiction requires an in-use cover for a cord left plugged in, use a cover like the TayMac MX4380S Extra Duty 1-gang in-use cover instead.
2) I need a weatherproof cover for a decorator-style device, not a duplex receptacle. What should I use instead of the Kraloy 078901?
The Kraloy 078901 is purpose-built to cover duplex receptacle devices within a single-gang footprint, so it will not match a decorator (rectangular) device opening. For that opening, the Bell Outdoor Comforts 1-gang vertical decorator weatherproof cover is the matching part, since it is cut for a decorator device in a vertical orientation. Confirm the device style in the box before ordering, because the two openings are not interchangeable.
3) What is the difference between the Kraloy 078901 cover and the TayMac MX4380S?
Both are 1-gang weatherproof covers for outdoor wiring devices, but they are built differently. The Kraloy 078901 is molded grey PVC, sized to fit standard single-gang duplex receptacle openings and intended to shield the receptacle from rain, dust, and debris. The TayMac MX4380S is an aluminum in-use cover in gray from the Extra Duty series, meaning it is designed to stay closed over a cord that is plugged in. If the outlet will have something left plugged into it, the in-use style is the one that keeps the opening covered during use; if the outlet is only used intermittently, the PVC duplex cover is the simpler part.
4) What is the Kraloy 078901 cover made of, and will it corrode on a coastal or wash-down installation?
Molded PVC, which is non-metallic and resists moisture and corrosion, so it holds up where an aluminum or steel cover would pit or rust. That makes it a reasonable pick for coastal exposure, pool decks, and other damp exterior locations. If you specifically want a metal cover, the TayMac MX4380S is an aluminum 1-gang option.
5) I need to standardize outdoor receptacle covers across a property. What should I order for duplex outlets versus decorator-style devices?
For round-hole duplex receptacles, the Kraloy 078901 PVC single-gang cover is the match. It will not fit a decorator (rectangular) device opening, so for those openings the Bell Outdoor Comforts 1-gang vertical decorator weatherproof cover is the one to spec. Where a cord stays plugged in permanently, such as a block heater or landscape lighting, use a 1-gang in-use cover like the TayMac MX4380S Extra Duty instead. Walk the openings and count by device type before you place the order.
6) Is the Kraloy 078901 a replacement cover only, or does it include the box and receptacle?
It is the cover alone. The 078901 is a PVC weatherproof plate for a duplex receptacle in a single-gang box, so the box, the receptacle, and any gasket or mounting screws the job needs are ordered separately. On a retrofit you keep the existing box and device and just swap the cover.
7) Is a PVC cover like the Kraloy 078901 interchangeable with an aluminum one?
They cover the same single-gang opening but are not the same product. The Kraloy 078901 is molded PVC, which is corrosion resistant and lightweight for handling and positioning over an existing single-gang box. The TayMac MX4380S is aluminum, from the Extra Duty series. Where a metal cover is wanted for impact or for appearance alongside metal enclosures, the aluminum unit is the choice; where corrosion from salt or chemical exposure is the concern, the PVC body avoids metal altogether. Grey PVC also coordinates with common exterior PVC boxes and enclosures.
8) Which single-gang outdoor cover is the simplest option for a patio outlet used only occasionally?
The Kraloy 078901 is the straightforward choice for that case. It is a molded grey PVC weatherproof cover for a standard single-gang duplex receptacle, used on patios, porches, garages, and other exterior electrical points, and its standard single-gang dimensions let it go on either a new box or an existing receptacle being upgraded. The alternatives add capability you may not need: the TayMac MX4380S is an Extra Duty in-use cover built to remain closed with a cord plugged in, and the Bell Outdoor Comforts cover is cut for a vertical decorator device rather than a duplex receptacle.
9) What color is the Kraloy 078901 duplex cover, and will it match my existing PVC boxes?
Grey. It is the standard PVC electrical grey, so it reads consistently against grey PVC boxes, conduit bodies, and exterior enclosures on the same wall. If the opening calls for a different look, Bell's Outdoor Comforts 1-gang vertical decorator weatherproof cover is another option we carry.
10) What is the manufacturer part number for the Kraloy grey PVC single-gang duplex weatherproof cover?
Kraloy part number 078901. That is the only model under this designation, so there are no finish or size options to specify when you order it.
